Audioengine Goes Passive with P4 Speakers

You can say I've been a little spoiled with my Audioengine A2 powered speakers in my home office. But while having peace of mind having to never worry about external amplifiers and wire forests is nice, I'll admit there are times when I wish I could put my other audio equipment to use with it.

Fortunately, Audioengine has heard my cries (and I'm sure many others) and decided to address the enthusiasts' speaker menu by adding yet another line of high-performance bookshelf speakers, the Audioengine P4s, only this time they've removed their built-in amps so you can use your own...

As always, the construction looks beautiful. Its cute little form factor makes for easy to hide around the living room if need be, though we'd personally showcase its lovely finish by throwing it on a stand or something. And because it doesn't have a built-in amp anymore, you no longer are restricted to using the speakers for volume control; you can run it from your receiver or a dedicated amp for full control of your sound source.

The Audioengine P4 comes in 3 different finishing flavors: high gloss white, satin black, or "eco-friendly" caramel-color made from sustainable bamboo. You can grab it from Audioengine for $250-325 a pair (the more expensive one being the eco-option).
