At the end of the month, there is always the struggle to determine which ones you will keep and which ones hit the recycling bin on the way out the door. For those who have never been to the Central Midwest, it has a feel and way of life all to its own. We drive our own cars (as opposed to mass transportation), we raise our own livestock and we love to do things ourselves. And while Steve and Cathy Worden, from a suburb of Kansas City, don't have any cows or chickens out back, they do have a great working knowledge of what it takes to put a home together with your own two hands. Recently we drug home a great "project" couch from an auction. Once in our basement, we noticed that there was gum stuck to the back of one of the cushions. Click through to see how we were able to remove the gum from the cushion with ease... a trick that works on clothes, furniture and shoes!

Steve and Barry's is closing 52 stores in 23 states. As the stores close they are selling of all of their retail fixtures down to the bare walls. Why does that matter? Things found in the business section are often made well and can be used for things that they weren't intended. For instance, 80 plastic cafeteria trays could be a wall treatment or paneling. Most often times we think about carpeting being used almost exclusively on the floor. We might get daring once in awhile and think about making a cat scratcher out of it, but usually... carpet stays under our feet. We're not sure what the appeal of contact paper is. Maybe it's the inexpensive makeover possibilities, maybe it's just fun to peel and stick it to something (sorry, we're easily amused).
