The IKEA 2008 Tagline: "Home is the most important place in the world". Here is a peek at the look and feel of the new catalog (which will be distributed in hard copy later this month) - which features LOTS of stripes, more black and deep colors, dark finishes and pattern, pattern, pattern to spare (so much so that we are planning a separate post on the textiles - look for it later today). ...

As an IKEA employee, I got my copy about a week ago. I have to admit, I wasn't that impressed by it. It's smaller than last year's and seems to have fewer products in it. Other employees in my department have had the same thoughts.

Hard copies got delivered to customers this week, here in Montreal

The thing that bugs me is the price difference between american and canadian markets... If someone could explain it, it'd be great :P

For example : That yellow bed, 299$ US? In CDN, it should come to 315$... but it sells for 449$!!
That white couch, that sells for 499$? In CDN it comes to 525$ but sells for 449$

There's even a full kitchen that sells for 4K in the US, but for 6K in Canada!

What gives?

Even worse, I was comparing the US catalog, and CDN catalog, and there's a media unit that sells for 215$ CDN, but for 550$ US, that's more than twice the price (2.5, actually)...
Could it be only because of production/transport?

Is that table (the silver one in the top photo) designed by Craighton Berman?

Unfortunately, no Andy. I wish that IKEA had bought the design from Aye&Berman, but they either hijacked us via the web (probably not), or we just ride the same design wavelength (most likely). But damn, the leg proportions are quite similar.
