Look!: Modern + Design + Function Exhibition

021607mdf.jpg

Last night, Janel and I were happy to attend the MDF: Chicago Furniture Now exhibition at Design Within Reach. Twenty designs were selected (from around 175, if we heard things correctly) and showcased to a PACKED house - it was exciting to see so many in one place with a common passion. We saw some amazing designs - and surprisingly, met Luke from our Color Contest (his beautiful console was one of the twenty MDF finalists).

We should have some "official" information and images from the event to show you next week. Plus, we picked up a slew of business cards and are eager to blog the heck out of this talented bunch.

Anyone go last night and have some initial thoughts??

did luke ever come clean about the colors he used? people kept calling his bedroom blue, but it looked like grey to me.

It was a great turnout.
I noticed a lot of Furniture Designers (duh!) but sadly, not enough Interior Designers/Architects/specifiers.

I really liked the Prismatic Acrylic Table & Chris Davids/Toki Screen made from 1/4" Bamboo- and Sean Scotts Corian lamp/with a base that sure looked a lot like my iMacs base- but hey- its a good design to start with....Not sure how long the winners will be on display- but well worth a trip!

Thanks to everybody that came out! It's exciting to see Chicago starting to develop more of an independent designer/maker scene. I'm looking forward to seeing the coverage from AT...
