A New Leaf

020107newleaf.jpgWe'd heard for ages that A New Leaf was pretty much THE Chicago spot for all things floral. Though we'd peeked in the entry and small front room a few times, we had no clue that the space extended on multiple levels, covered head to toe and wall to wall in lush leaves, petals, pots, and is overflowing with beautiful ideas for adding a touch of life to your home.

020107orchids_grn.jpgWhile we don't often buy fresh flowers for our home (wish we did), we do have lots of green...and our most recent addition is a rescued large cymbidium orchid that my BF found in the dumpster (this is our third or fourth plant rescued from a dumpster. What is up with that??).

We wandered into A New Leaf to scope out pots and fell in love with the winding rooms, old creaky wooden floors, and the hanging plants that swiped our heads at every turn (but not annoyingly)...

Once we got upstairs to the many shelves, rows, and stacks of pots, we realized we knew nothing about re-potting a large orchid. We asked a helpful guy in the store about it, and he advised us to not re-pot it at all. So after a long discussion, we instead browsed the smaller ceramics for our other stuff that needed separating and room for roots, and we bought some really cute ones (under $15 each).

Our hands were full on a freezing cold day, so we didn't walk away with any fresh flowers this time. Anyone have experience in the floral department (prices? service? variety? presentation?)?

Let us know!

This place is amazing. Whenever I enter their shops or stands I immediately begin to bite my nails and my breathing rate increase. After that I began to run hysterically through the entire area grabing everything that I can lay my hands on.

But seriously folks, this place has everything and it's usually at great prices. What they don't have, they can get their hands on and the customer service is always great. They know EVERYTHING.....

This might be the best store in Chicago! Besides having a to die for floral selection and accessories they have an adjacent building that they rent out for private parties, not your typical wedding cheese, either.
