LushLYFE

20071108lushlogo.jpgRed plastic cups can only go so far. Some parties (and guests) require the real stuff.

20071108lush1.jpgCue lushLYFE, the one-stop-shopping cocktail hour boutique. This online shop specializes solely in glass and bar ware. Their stock is browsable according to product line, designer, or style of glass.

We are a bit taken with the gem shape of the Pure Collection designed by Schott Zwiesel (see right). Each of Zwiesel's glasses is made from Tritan Crystal which, according to the website, is dishwasher safe, scratch resistant, and "reassuringly more durable and accident proof."

Besides stemware and glasses, lushLYFE carries lots of happy hour accessories, such as napkins, shakers, and Karim Rashid's stainless steel serving tray (seen above).

Be very careful, we own both white and red glasses by Schott Zwiesel and they are very delicate regardless of the claims. For parties, I would suggest something more durable.

Everyone has their own experience with glassware, obviously, but I've seen two Schott Zwiesel wine glasses literally banged rim-to-rim (and I'm talking kinda hard) and they survived. I've also seen them hit with quarter-sized metal ball bearings (like the kind in those five hanging ball office toy things) and just ring. Will they survive a fall against granite counters or to the floor? Maybe... but probably not.

Crystal is made with metal to make it stronger; by using titanium instead of lead, these glasses are both safer and stronger than traditional crystal and certainly better than normal glass. That being said, something thicker might be more to your liking or more fitting for those rough-and-tumble wine and cheese parties.

Schott Zwiesel glasses are great for civilized dinner/cocktail parties. For inebriated fun for a bigger group, I suggest stocking up on $2 barware from Ikea. Not very pretty but a better alternative to the Red Solo cups. And at $2 a piece, they're practically disposable & you're not even going to flinch if one breaks. Just stick them in the dishwasher and they're good to go for your next shin dig – minus a few casualties.

I cannot wait to order! I am forever arranging a dinner party and not having the exact right glass. I'm a fan of always using the proper glass for the proper cocktail! I've already interacted with the customer service team and they are fantastic. Will be placing my order soon.

I own glasses from the Schott Zwiese Pure collection.... and they are as described, "very durable." I love them and would not hesitate to use them for dinner parties and larger gatherings.

We thoroughly enjoy the LushLyfe website. It's easy to navigate and we love how they've categorized the glassware by both shape and libation.
We too, own the Schott Zwiese Pure collection and use them frequently when entertaining. Haven't experienced any problems with their "durability".

I suppose "durability" was the wrong word choice. We have had problems with washing them and the glass breaking at the point where the glass meets the stem. Also, good to know about the testing of the wine glass. I am assuming you work for the company.
