These are great at a beach house, when you want to rinse off all the sand before you go inside. But to take a routine morning shower? No thanks.

Also, you have to be careful about plumbing on an exterior wall if you live in a climate where pipes can freeze.

This would be fun if it were near an ocean. Otherwise I don't quite get why you would need it.

I have one of these at my beach rental, and most of us in the house use it every day, for regular showers. There is something nice about showering outside in the sunshine!

Although - I have seen some of the showers at other houses and well, you really have to keep outdoor showers very clean otherwise they go downhill quickly. Once the spiders set up shop - no more showers for me!

We had outdoor showers at a house we rented in Hawaii. http://www.hooilohouse.com/ It was absolutely fabulous. Unlike your picture, the outdoor showers at the Hawaii house was only accessed from the rest of the bathroom inside. It was definitely NOT a beach house shower. Check it out.

I've used some communal campground showers before, and NO THANK YOU! I suppose it would be handy at the beach house, but it seems like a lot of effort. I'd rather just have a pipe near the pool for quick rinses before getting in/out.

For general use in the upper Midwest, not.

I love showering outside during hot summer months. I love the idea of connecting an indoor shower/bath to an outdoor shower for seasonal bathing al fresca.

Originally from Florida and the apartment complex had one of these for tennants to use after going to the beach (which was across the street). Excellent idea, depending on where a person lives.

It's fine but don't make it out of wood! If you do at least put deck stain on it for protection. That looks like it'd be a major upkeep headache.

Good Lord, such naysayers and brown clouds! I have had one of these (not at a beach) and also know several friends who have them and use them routinely for morning showers—why not? They are absolutely glorious, wonderful whether you live in city or country. Live a little, people.

I love outdoor showers and tubs. Very effective water conservation and reuse. There is even something nice about a hot shower on cold day, not just for fair weather.

when i got married in india my husband's family had a great simple concrete outdoor shower and i showered there every day for 3 months rain or shine - loved the rain! - even though they had regular baths inside. they also had a an large open alcove with strategically placed walls so you could dress comfortably. it was really well designed and all the farmhouses had one.

it was beautiful and so refreshing - i can hardly put into words - sky above, fresh air, the sounds of the farm around you, it really couldn't be beat.

great for cooling down after sex on the beach.

I took an outdoor shower up at the Cape last year. Sort of a bizarre experience. OK while you are on vacation but not so much as an every day experience.

When I was growing up, we moved into a house with an outdoor shower. I was there for 8 years and since there was only one bathroom for 5 people, whenever the weather permitted, us kids showered outside. It felt a little weird when I could hear my neighbors in their yards, but early in the morning or late at night when all was quiet, it was a pretty decent experience.

i like the idea of it, but this photo is awful. Looks like a total afterthought. I think the joy of showering outside would be greatly diminished by having to stare at that bad siding on the house....
