Roundup: Paintable Wood IKEA Furniture

4-15-08wood2.jpg

If you need a shot of color in your home, painted furniture is always an option. We rounded up a selection of solid wood furniture from IKEA that could be dressed up with a coat or two. Some of these are unfinished, and some have a clear lacquer coat that just needs some light sanding before you prime it...

we have two of the 3-drawer cabinets (top pic, top left-hand corner). i stained them espresso and traded out the wooden knobs for brushed metal ones. the result? storage-friendly bedside tables that look great. total cost for two, including stain and new knobs? $90! a steal!

It's funny that this is one of today's posts because we are going to be painting and reupholstering some new dining chairs that we bought at IKEA last weekend. Here are the chairs:

and here is the fabric:

I've never even attempted to do something like this myself, so I hope it comes out well. Who knows? It could be the beginning of my life as a DIY-er...

i have the stranda dresser ($149, top right) which i have painted black and put in my apartment's entryway. it looks pretty darn good, if i do say so myself! i don't have a linen closet or any storage in my bathroom, so it holds all that stuff.

however... i which i could find some other handles to fit it. it needs some spiffier handles to really look nice, but the size is really bizarre - like two inches wide - and nothing fits without having to drill a third hole in it.

anyone know of any sites that sell odd-sized drawer pulls?

Tyniapt, put the following into google:
2" centers and cabinet pulls and you should get quite an assortment
