More Gray Rooms: Seven Catalogue

6-20-08gray6.jpg

We know - we're pushing it with one too many posts on our favorite color-of-the-moment. Thank you for being patient with us as we get this fixation with gray rooms out of our system. We've examined a few light, silvery grays, but today we wanted to delve into this moody, dark gray with hints of purple that comes to us via Italian furniture company Seven...

We don't know the name of the paint color, but for a similar effect we'd suggest looking at Benjamin Moore's Witching Hour (one of Jamie Drake's favorite colors) or maybe Ralph Lauren's Galvanized. Other paint ideas for dark gray rooms?

My issue is grey makes me feel depressed (so does anything but little touches of black). Like living in a perpetual cloudy day.

If it was a greyish-blue I could deal with it more easily.

That brown tufted chair is incredible.

That color looks cool in photos, but I don't think I could live with it. It's too depressing.

Yes you are overdoing it a bit with the grey, but at least there's no Eames lounge in this post.

The Grey featured here is absolutely incredible. With all the natural brick in my place, I would love to use this color.

SarahC, anyway you could use your power as a celebrity blogger to find out what Pantone color/mix was used in that shoot?

I'm totally a fan of the dark, moody greys, so I love these posts, and I've bookmarked this one, too.

I think it's awesome! I'm moving into a new apartment in July and I'm painting all of the rooms gray (but different shades). I'm thinking Dior Gray for the bathroom (a darker gray), Pigeon Gray in the living room (like the Julianne Moore designed room in Domino) and Silver Gray in the bedroom (a kind of blue/gray) all by Benjamin Moore. Thanks Pinko! I think I might use a glossy gray for the bathroom now!

Haha im totally in love with gray, its my fav color, and i personaly love AT's new obsession. Maybe you should listen to Damien Rice's song, lovingly enough "Grey Room"

"Well I've been here before
Sat on the floor in a grey grey room
Where I stay in all day
I don't eat, but I play with this grey grey food"

i love it. and "dblitz1" theres nothing wrong with cloudy days... to be honest i find them much more inspirtational because the moods tends to make one more reflective and thus offers a chance to look deeper into a subject. thats just me.

James M --

You can probably find that colour by finding the flooring -- which looks like Dalsouple rubber tiles to me me. DalUni in either Gris Anthracite, Fumée or Gris Lyon:

This is perfect timing as I'm considering painting my kitchen grey... it's being worked on as I type, but once the new counters and everything else are in I'll post pics and find out what you all think about the grey, probably Monday.

EMH:

I'm glad you like cloudy days. I'm not trying to say you or anybody shouldn't embrace gray if it pleases you.

All I am saying is that *I* find it depressing. My honest reaction to grey (and black) is to want to shut my eyes and crawl into a fetal position. Or escape to somewhere else. It's a visceral-level reaction.

By extension I have a really difficult time with cloudy days -- they don't work for me the same way they must work for you. They make me want to crawl into a hole and fall asleep until the sun comes back out. Where I live we don't get a lot of cloudy days, thankfully.

Gray is calming for me. I'd go for the cooler gray rather than the warmer ones.

I am loving the gray. Keep it coming. My eyes are completely burned out on the crazy, clashing, "pops of color and pattern" thing. Calm, gray, and slightly more organized and coherent is looking pretty good right about now.

My whole house is in rockport gray from benjamin moore (my landlord let me pick the color, but only one!) I absolutely love it...it's an incredibly versatile shade of gray, with tints of blue and green. It looks great with burgundy, evergreen, bright blues, dark blues, even gold and silver. I'll try and get some pictures up soon.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely love this! We use a lot of these colors for our room settings on our website. But after this, I think I might pick up a 5 gallon bucket of paint tomorrow!

Having spent two months testing approximately 15 different shades, I just used BM’s Pigeon Gray to paint my 11 x 20 bedroom, which has two big windows but very little natural light. I picked it out BEFORE seeing the months-old copy of Domino, where Julianne Moore used it in her clothing stylist’s apt (I promise!) but I gotta say, Julianne may have a second career in her. It’s a beautiful, medium-to-dark gray that manages to still somehow brighten the space and reads a moody, intriguing shade of purple/blue: definitely obvious enough, but not “little girl” purple by any stretch. I did it in BM’s Aura flat, and that stuff is AMAZING! Touch ups are a breeze, with no markings whatsoever. Love.
