Silver Singing Cuckoo

2007-01-26-cuckoo.jpg
So silly, so sweet, so silver.... This totally inexpensive (so inexpensive that it make us a little nervous, actually) cuckoo clock from Fred Flare has something going for it that we really like. It's that mix of old fashioned granny-style with the flashy disco metallic.

You can have the birdie chirp on the hour or play one of 12 programmed songs.

It's made of chromed pvc, so this is more of a toy than anything else, but at least it's priced like one too - its only going to set buyers back $14.

Click on over to Fred Flare for the details.

i bought this clock a while back and, while the shiny silver wasn't really my thing, i loved the price and the size. (i like that you can also turn off the sound all together.) i spraypainted mine white. makes a big difference, and was fairly easy to do.

hey, a-m, will you post a picture (or email me one) of your white cuckoo clock? I've been thinking about doing just that but I'm torn. I'd love to see what you've done with it...

I feel so validated that you guys posted this -- I have one and find it unaccountably groovy. (A-M, I love your white version.)

However, I did have to take the battery out because the (faint) ticking was driving me mad.

In the spirit of, "If you are going to sin, sin boldly" I prefer the clock that you will see if you click on my name (unfortunately I am linking to Urban Outfitters, though I saw it at a small indie shop in SF for $30 but cannot remember the name of the place. Stag heads trump cute birds every time.

I feel validated too! I fought viciously to get this clock at a white elephant gift exchange. By far the best thing there!

erin g. - click on my name to view a flickr photo of the clock. before spray-painting, i basically just covered up the hands with tape and stuffed some paper around the bird (so paint didn't get inside of the clock). in order to get the chain part painted properly, i did have to hang the clock from a tree in the backyard (i wrapped the tree trunk in newspaper). that was the only challenging part of the project.

hope this helps!

(frostine, great name!!)

would b doubly too good or get destroyed by a friend if it played Magnetic Fields "absolutely cuckoo", sometimes i'd choose the most crass available tune....

"don't fall in love w/ me yet we've only recently met, true i'm in love w/ you but you might decide i'm a nut, give me a week or two to go absolutely cuckoo and when you see your error then you can flee in terror, like evrybody else does, i'm easy to get rid of, unless you make a mistake, i'll have to jump in a lake, and all my friends will blame you, it's only fair to tell you, i'm absolutely cuckoo,' (x2 rapidly, to ukele strumming)
