apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Chicago Homes of Local TV Personalities
Time Out Chicago Issue 192

110308ponce1.jpgMore from TOC's Home Decor issue: two "house calls" with local t.v. personalities. I had a great experience interviewing both Kelly Edwards from Design on a Dime, and WTTW Chicago Tonight anchor Phil Ponce (pictured above, with his wife Ann). The difference between the two homes: On the one hand we have a Bucktown apartment steeped in black and white, DIY, and a sense of the temporary (Kelly reveals her Libra tendencies that avoid permanent design choices). On the other hand, Phil and Ann Ponce's home reflects history, years of working to maintain the home's original era, and large-scale paintings depicting family and the past.

We hope to do full AT-style house tours soon, showing even more close-up details and hearing more from these home dwellers.

I'm surprised about the Libra tendencies. I'm a Libra, and the times when I had to make temporary design choices (grad school furnished apts) were some of the most unsettling times of my life. Over the decades, I've noticed that I fit some Libra qualities, but certainly not all (although a former co-worker identified me quickly as that sign and always referred to me as "Libra").
