Do you want to design your own home?
Welcome to Urban Source, run by designers Jenny Rossignuolo (a self-described composed, clean-cut Caucasian) and Rose Tejeda-Navarre (who reveals herself as an impetuous, fast-talking Latin).
Urban Source is Chicago's "first walk-in design studio where design-savvy urban dwellers can participate in customizing their homes and enjoy immediate access to cutting-edge commercial finishes and materials."
After years of seeing that many of their favorite textiles and materials were available only to commercial outlets, this duo now makes it their business to bring the best to you. The designers offer free (and enthusiastic) in-store design advice and bring an inspired selection of materials to their shop: textiles, wallcoverings (including PalacePapers by Casey Gunschel, recently posted here on AT), shelving and accessories.
My wife and I had Urban Source do our drapes for our new condo in Lincoln Square and we are really happy with the results. Rose designed this really cool track system that the drapes slide along--the effect is pretty dramatic as we have 10 ft ceilings and these drapes pretty much go floor-to-ceiling and run the length of our walls instead of just covering the windows. They can do almost any material but they have access to industrial fabrics that you'd see in offices and restaurants; it's functional but pretty hip-looking too. And from what I've heard re the cost of window treatments, they were pretty affordable. Not cheap, but for the time, attention and quality we got, well worth it.
Jenny helped me pick out just the right fabrics for throw pillows for my sofa. Without color swatches, she was able to tap in to what I was looking for and make some greatr suggestions. I reused the pillow part of some Pottery Barn pillows, but took the liberty of using new, softer pillow inserts of the lumbar pillows because she was not happy with how mine worked with the fabric...at no extra charge. She was more concerned with the end result than net profit. I have recommended them to several people. For a few extra dollars, you can have custom pillows that you can't find in the local boutique. THey have a wide range of fabrics in all price points.
I had been looking for over a year for upholstery fabric for living room furniture. I had very little luck in finding something I liked until I met Rose. She had some very good suggestions and in less than a week I had my fabric. The upholsterer she rcommended was excellent. I am very pleased with the look of my living room.
