Spotted, as they say, at Target: these burl-y, handmade-ish wooden bowls on sale. Not quite clearance, but going fast. Single shots, post-jump.

Apparently part of a Root subline, they are made of Asian fir stumps, an otherwise forgotten wood that—according to the sticker—helps encourage quicker reforestation by making way for seedlings.
They had a quality heft and nice finish that felt rather un-pre-fab.

Those are pretty cool

Yesterday, I saw the same bowls at Whole Foods (priced higher!)

You can get these for less at TJMaxx/Home Goods.

I bought mine at Winners (Canada) for $9.99. I have it on my landing strip as a key catchall.
Be sure and oil it as directed, they crack severely in dry climates.

I just bought this same bowl for the landing strip... at Marshalls for $5 (it's not my favorite store, in general, but I was pleased to find bamboo cutting boards and wooden bowls for 1/4 of the price).

Ditto on Marshall's. I found mine there for cheap.

I know natural wood bowls (and accessories) are a fad right now, but having seen these in person, they look kind of lumpy and inelegant.

Yeah definitely go to Homegoods or TJ Maxx, much cheaper.
