Inhabitat's Great Green Homes series is all about homes using thoughtful materials and sustainable systems. The Brooks/Cadora home designed by Santa Monica-based David Kellen and Associates, took a mid-century ranch and added 1400 square feet of new eco-friendly space. What we love most is that eventhough the house has been updated, the classic California style wasn't sacrificed for a purely minimalist interior. (continued)

If we didn't know this place was green, we'd just think it had great style. But from solar power to hemp countertops, a solar yurt on site, and a waterless urinal, this home embodies future-forward green design in every way.

The house also includes these green features:
• 3.5 kilowatt AC photovoltaic system,
• Passive solar cooling (no air conditioning system),
• Solar hot water collector with a 90 gallon storage tank.
• Bosch tankless water heater
• Waterless urinal
• CFL and LED lighting
• Cork flooring, recycled glass tile, wheat stalk panels in the kitchen

The stone walls in the bathroom are amazing. It almost looks like a personal spa - so serene and peaceful.

most of the furniture looks like it is from Environment Furniture. in fact, I just bought that bed (Santos Bed) from them.

they have a shop next door to ABC Home in New York.
