Balboa Highlands: A Joseph Eichler Community

We forgot to post these images of the jaw-dropping, blast from the past Eichler community we wandered about in after finishing one of our recent house tours in Granada Hills. The Balboa Highlands was voted one of "The 10 Best Neighborhoods You've Never Heard Of" by Los Angeles Magazine in 2003, and we can't disagree...

eichlertractmap.jpgBuilt in 1963-64 by developer Joseph Eichler, the 100 homes of Balboa Highlands designed by the likes of A. Quincy Jones, Frederick Emmons and Claude Oakland is the only Eichler tract in Los Angeles County.

The homes are in a wide state of quality, with some of the post and beam homes converted into more traditional style homes (the horror!), while others have adopted the spirit of the original open air atriums and floor-to-ceiling window walls architecture and have revitalized their homes with new exterior paint and architectural details in tune with the Eichler aesthetic.

And remember to revisit our Cindy and Harvey's Eichler Original house tour for a peek inside of one of these beauties.

Incredible. I'd be curious to know what this neighborhood costs?

I just found this past post on CurbedLA about one of the homes I snapped up above (the stunning dark blue and yellow home). Looks like it was being sold for around $720,000 a couple years back. They did a nice job with it.

i'm surprised there isn't some kind of neighborhood council which forbids tampering, adding "traditional" qualities.
