Here's the equivalent of home decor fried rice: Diary of a Vermont Eco Builder took all the Marmoleum leftover bits from their renovation projects, including from the bathrooms floors, bathroom counter tops and kitchen counter tops, and arranged the pieces altogether to create this beautiful patchwork kitchen floor...

In keeping with our eco design model, and just for the sheer fun of it, we’ve decided that the kitchen floor will be made up from all the leftover pieces of Marmoleum we’ve saved so far.
The first part was the installation of a high quality sub-floor (similar to the bathrooms), consisting of maple plywood and a lot of staples.
Then we mocked up some layouts on the computer (complete with correct colors and textures), and settled on the one below.

I'm a huge fan of rendering things in photoshop before implementing a plan. I've done three rooms this way and think it takes almost all the guesswork out of things, which means fewer mistakes, fewer returns, and a happier me.
Way to go!

@rymon[][]
It took less time than we thought actually. You start off with all these pieces, but then slowly whittle it down in sizes, color, placement etc., and pretty soon it's done!
@kimg924
Definitely! We've done that for a lot of the house construction and it's helped tremendously. A bit of rough Photoshop work goes a long way.
@Ironsides
The cabinets will eventually get face panels that will hide all the drawers and their contents. They'll probably be solid maple pieces.

How did you receive or "reclaim" all those flooring samples? Curious

@LoriSF - Albo and I called a bunch of flooring places (especially ones that do a lot of commerical installations, where Marmoleum is more popular) and asked to see their remnants. You have to take the entire piece they've got left, but we got some amazing deals - less than $1 a square foot! We used that material to do our countertops and bathroom floors, and the leftovers from THOSE jobs ended up here in the kitchen. So glad you all like it!

SisterRae that is a good use of remnants better than going into the landfill, great job and creative.
