The Ablitts recently completed the construction of a four story, 700 s/f vertical apartment in downttown Santa Barbara. It's got one room on each floor, 72 steps and no yard. Why? Says Ablitt, "I wanted to make a statement, and show that you can build small, comfortable and luxurious." See all pics here.
Thank you for featuring this project! Sometimes I feel like SB is very off-the-map when it comes to Apartment Therapy (one tends to think of SB as being full of Spanish villas more than apartments). The Ablitt's tower is one block away from my loft and it has been so great to walk down the alley and see the progress on this building. This is a great lesson for our city about urban form and density...I hope this incites more infill development!
oh wow! that's so beautiful. can't you just imagine waking up to a soft breeze blowing your sheer curtains open?
What a lovely building. I can hardly wait for my next visit to Santa Barbara.
It reminds me of an MC Escher drawing - one where all the stairs lead up.
