What is the advantage of SMALL? I came from a 3 bedroom house and wanted to live downtown so I choose location over size. I love the challenge of decorating to a small space. Less is more, and less to clean too.

What's your favorite resource for your home?
Again working with my father to make all my furniture is very special to me. With out him I would have an apartment full of cheap furniture that everyone else has. I've only lived here for a few months so it's not there yet but in a few months i think it will be.
What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home?
The bedroom furniture I took elements from different furniture I liked and sketched it out. Then my father made it all from oak. The stuff is solid and will last forever. We also made the kitchen table. I wish I could of taken better photos, but I was having trouble with the camera and lighting. Plus it's real small so the angles were hard to get a good shot.

Can your Dad handle another kid? Very nice work he does and your apt. is lovely, esp. the bedroom.

where is the living room? seems like you wasted two pics on the kitchen rather than adding one of the living room.

Looks clean, cool, & modern. A bit stark for me personally, but very nice.

I love the gray paint! What is it?

I like the grey & white - but why did you make bedroom furniture that looks like it came from West Elm?
And where's the Living Room?

it's cool. but no personality. where are the pics, where are the little pieces that say, "this is me".. you've got great pieces but you need to accessorize.. just a little.. COLOR!! elizabet is right.. lovely hotel.

This is another example of people being too impatient to wait until their vision is complete before they enter their home in a contest. I wish we could see what it will look like when you say you'll have it all together, like you said, in a few months.
I enjoyed that this is something you're working on together with your father and creating items that you like, and which are built with quality materials, instead of buying cheap popular junk that appears "cool" but unoriginal, and doesn't last very long.

Dark and unpersonal. It does remind me of a hotel, but not one that I would stay at.

I love that you an your dad designed/made the furniture.

It is cool that your Dad made the furniture because, as I was looking at the pictures, I was thinking that almost all the style was in the furniture design. Unfortunately, it's otherwise pretty bare with a decorative item here and there. It needs to be personalized.

Huh. I thought all the furniture came from one source, which made me dislike it. But if your dad made it, that makes it cooler.

Downtown Austin - super-cool. Love the furniture- it's beautiful and the fact that you designed it and that your Dad made it makes it even better. The apartment does seem a little bare right now- a bit too pared down for my taste- but I voted cool.

I'm impressed with the furniture--design and execution.

It's a bit monastic and dark.

Even though I do like it...I have to agree that it looks as if it was stages for a magazine shoot. But you know...if that is your style and you like...then it is totally kewl!

Too plain and impersonal for me. However, in a few months, I could see this being an amazing space.

It felt very dark to me but then again that is just a my personal style, I am not into black and grey, so I won't fault you for it. The furniture pieces are great and nice to know they were hand built by your father. Good job. I can't wait to see pictures when you finish decorating the place, there is great potential here.

seems dark to me...is there any good natural light? is this a basement apartment?

The title of this entry IS "Work in Progress" so if he hasn't really filled in all the accorizing, I'm sure that's going to happen eventually, but from what's going on so far, he's off to an amazing start, I'd say. The furniture really, truly does look so professionally done that it looks store-bought, as people used to say.
When you have things made for you, personally, it's a good opportunity to have them customized to make them just a tad different from what's already for sale out there, so I think it's understandable that people thought it all came from one source, though.
I think you should enter again next year, too, because by then, you'll have the look fleshed out a lot more, I'm sure.
In the meantime, I think it's already cool.
