When we get home from a particularly memorable trip we try to make an album of the photos before daily life takes over and we never get to it. We've gone the route of making albums through iPhoto and just found at least one alternative with some more options:
Good Stock Press and Bindery make custom photo albums (they start at $500) and also have predesigned books (that are closer to $150) that you can use as a template for your own books (like iPhoto) but have more options for the fabric cover and layout/font.
We also like that if we have a really special trip/family history/wedding/baby to commemorate, we can go the route of the more expensive but really nice album that we'll keep forever (like for generations). Working with a designer, you design the custom albums from the ground up.
See all the options on Good Stock's Website.
I like the album options offered by snapfish.com. There are tons of album templates to choose from, and you can customize the layout on each page -- from a single full-bleed photo to a scattered layout of a bunch of images. You can caption the images, too. I do a book for major trips and a book that collects the best of our monthly getaways.
