The June 2008 Martha Stewart features an article called "Sticks and Stones", which features several ideas on integrating natural elements into your decor. One of them is this fun wall treatment that consists of slicing a birch pole into thin disks and gluing them onto plywood panels to form a graphic mosaic...

I was very excited when I got the June issue. I love the pebble bathroom mat and the birch pencil holders. The wall of wood discs is a bit much for me, but there were a lot of ideas that would work well in a modern home. I have been looking for stumps to make the coffee table featured for a few months now.

This wall treatment looks like something Trading Spaces would put up in some poor victim's den. It's not "rustic" so much as "dirty '70s cabin". There may be a sensitive, artist application of this but I haven't seen it. Eg.
