Looks like wall clocks are following the trend happening in wristwatch design, where the clock's utility takes second seat to unusual shapes and forms that may not make reading the time so easy...but will like unique while doing so:
1) Horloge design BUTTERFLY Clock: it might be because we're a bit loopy by week's end, but we can't but start singing "Butterfly in the sky, I can fly twice as high...take a look, it's in a book...Reading Rainbow."
2) Icon Clock by & Design: looks a bit like the offspring of a Mac icon and a Pez candy. Yummy.
3) Stanislavv Katz - The Fan Clock: we definitely want to see this concept in person. And because of the use of contrasting colours, it's actually quite easy to read.
4) Hanger Clock: Mirror, mirror on the wall, what the heck time do I need to be at the ball? The strange thing we noticed is that if you hang this clock by its handle, it would be upside down.
5) Handmade Functional Art Modern Wall Clock: We don't know if this clock is more akin to an elevator button plate or that childhood favourite, Connect Four. This one took a bit time to figure out how to read.
Can't even count how many times numberless clocks have had me an hour late or an hour early because of only the slightest visual difference between 1:30 and 2:30 from 20' away (or 20" on my wrist). But I love the red butterfly!

If it takes more than a minute to figure out what time it is (#5), it's worthless to me as a clock.

wow, that last one is so neat.

I like the idea of the #5 clock, but not so much the execution--it's more art than function. I prefer clocks that I can read from across the room with a glance. Since the minute numbers seem so randomly placed, this clock would just frustrate me.

i think these new concepts are just about slightly reconditioning ourselves to read things differently. i myself have made efforts to redesign classic pieces - not easy. kudos for creativity!

I think the round examples look enough like clocks to be interesting and functional, i.e., you need a clock but you want a pretty clock. The elevator button-looking one can of course be used as a clock, but it's look diverges so much from what one expects, that you have to look at it like, do I want this board of numbers in my house or not, and then learn how to read it besides.
In essence, you have to think more, but you come down to the same issue, what you want to have on your wall if what you needed was a clock.

I don't like wall clocks of any sort. My cellphone is like an extra appendage so I can always check to see what time it is. (Don't even have an alarm clock, either)
