Look! Vintage "Party Encyclopedia"

We recently came across this vintage guide to home entertaining at a rummage sale. The Calvert Pary Encyclopedia was copyrighted in 1963 and is chock full of interesting, if not a bit dated, party ideas!

"The Calvert Party Encyclopedia" was published by Calvert Distillers Company, and there are plenty of advertisements for the blended whiskey throughout the book. We love some of the ideas, though, for things like "Around the world in 31 drinks: party preferences from every continent," and "A Word in time! 44 appropriate toasts."

The section "Fun and games any number can play: 11 gay, amusing party ideas" is full of party mixers that were, perhaps, great ideas for a host or hostess in the early sixties...but perhaps not all of them hold up today. Ideas like "slogan guessing" and "jumbled words" pepper this section, with the occasional staple, like charades, and some odd ducks, as well. We're not sure we would be quick to start a "talkathon" where one guest will hold an ice cube in their hand as another guest talks for as long as possible on a subject. If the "talker" stops, the guest with the ice cube hands it over and must pick up talking where the first guest left off.

However, we haven't seen such a cute little guide to entertaining for our generation, and it got us thinking. What would be some interesting party games that might be included in a modern guide?
