Book Party: Apartment Therapy Presents...

5-17-liveblog-1.jpgWe're live-blogging the Apartment Therapy Presents: Real Homes, Real People, Hundreds of Design Solutions Book Party! We've got snacks from Murray's Cheese and Rick's Picks with drinks from Blue Ice American Vodka (made from Idaho Russet potatoes) and Clos Du Bois California Riesling. We're expecting to see some familiar faces from our book — this party is a chance for those featured to celebrate with all of the Apartment Therapy Media editors, representatives from our publisher Chronicle Books and members of the press. We'll be updating this post with pictures, video and anecdotes from the party-goers (and I'll be sure to taste a pickle-tini!)...

7:40 it's difficult to juggle live-blogging and socializing...

7:28 my pickle-tini is almost gone...and the last bits are extremely pickle-y!

PlantTherapy: Brownstoner's Garden of the Day

2008-05-16GOTD1.jpg

All of those gardens tucked away from view behind brownstones. Haven't you always wondered what was hidden behind them? Brownstoner asked for submissions and they seem to be rolling in from all around BKLYN. It's fun to see these spaces get their own showcase - and hats off to everyone gardening outside this season!

NY Good Questions: How Can I Finish My Apt.?

5.16room2.jpgDear AT,

Can you please help me finish my apartment?

I moved in over a year ago and have been slowly acquiring furniture etc., but the room just doesn't feel "comfortable".

I know I need a rug, art behind the sofa and possible window treatments, but i just cant seem to find anything that's right!

My colors are very neutral and I know I should add some color, but I'm stuck.

Please help. Thanks! Eric

NY Good Questions: How Can We Lighten Up the Hallway?

5.16room.jpgDear AT,

I was wondering if I could canvas the creative minds here at AT.

We recently moved into a older cabin (1927) and while the home has a lot of character, some of it is a bit much for our tastes.

The hallway is a perfect example of our conflict.

The entire hallway is lined with knotty pine paneling, which is definitely not our style...

Artfully Crammed Red Hook Rental
New York Magazine 5.19.08

5-16-redhook-apt-1.jpg

This is the last of the six New York homes featured in New York Magazine's Interiors Issue. Artist Judyth van Amringe loves her stuff...and it fills her Red Hook apartment to the gills. In the author's words, the apartment is "artfully crammed rather than cluttered and claustrophobic." Everything has its place. We're especially curious about the armchair in the photo above (lower left corner) that appears to be upholstered in various citrus-themed textiles...

NY Good Questions: Recommendations for a Charcoal Gray Paint?

5.16paint.jpgDear AT,

I am looking for a dark charcoal gray/grey (I'll never figure that spelling out...) for my office!

I'm going to do mostly white furniture to pop off of it (see pic), but I'm nervous to get something too black or brown.

Can anyone recommend a great dark charcoal gray?

Thanks! Amanda

AT Europe: Paris - A Colorful Makeover for a Haussmanian Apartment from Christophe D'Aboville

mmefig1.jpgIt's unusual to see this amount of color in a Haussmanian apartment, which is most often a study in muted tones. Madame Figaro magazine has before and after photos of a classic Haussmanian apartment that was reborn in technicolor thanks to Christophe D'Aboville, the artistic director of David Hicks France.
