Title: This Old House

"This is an abandoned house in a little town, called amboy, off route 66 in california. the population is 2 and it was purcahsed on ebay for $450,000. it used to be a very "hot" place to sleep and eat while driving route 66... before interstate 40 was built. now, the only "hotness" of this town is the 110 degree heat i experienced while shooting this. they are trying to revive it now. its an awesome place."

Title: 97th Street Windows
Photographer: Helene Gresser

"On my way to work, I walk past these windows on 97th Street between Madison and Park Avenues. Every few days, I noticed the decorations would change; sometimes new statuary (jazz musicians, baby Jesus, plaster-of-paris pineapples) on the sills, or a rubber snake entwined in the bars, or new silk flowers. Sometimes happy music pours from hidden speakers. Once in a while an motion sensor-rigged frog "ribbets" as you walk by. I now look forward to my walk to the subway, just to see what is new in the windows. They are a joyful burst of whimsy, an urban fantasy garden, perpetually bright and ever-changing."

HOT HOUSE - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU?

NEW THEME FOR JULY, AUGUST & SEPTEMBER.

This year we are going to change themes more often. Our third theme is Hot House. Drawing from this theme we hope you will submit more pictures for us to feature each Friday.

Here are the ground rules for 2008:

1. The title of of the picture must relate to the word "Hot House" (you may define that any way you like)
2. The picture should relate to the concept of home (you may define that any way you like)

This is our weekly celebration of ACCESSIBLE photography, which means beautiful artwork that you can actually hang on your wall tonight.

We're happy to be doing it with our friends Marty Weiss and Hannah Wallace. who are curating pics from Meter Gallery. Reader submissions will be posted bi-weekly and Meter will be in between. That means it a full on amateur and professional show!

Here's a crazy StumbleLoop that we made out of all the extras from last year:

So all two people are trying to revive the town? I'm surprised it can even be considered a town with just two people. What happens if they move?

The way I read the post, looks like someone bought the whole town for $450,000, yes? So whoever bought it probably has development plans. Hope they consult the two residents!

I hope it was the whole town for that price.

It's a pity that the two best photos so far compete on the same poll ;)

$450,000???? Just proves the old adage: some people have more money than brains!
