Her advice is worth sharing. Check out her original post here.

When searing for affordable vintage painting she limits her search to between 1900 & 1949. We went step further and narrowed our search down to works of American origin. You can tweak the criteria around to your tastes but that does seem to be the “sweet-spot” for some good inexpensive finds (mixed in with some more pricey works).
Happy hunting!

add 'california' or 'plein air' if you're into landscapes, and you usually get some pretty great stuff as well.
and don't forget 'paint by number' for some classic vintage chic!

affordable is as relative as quality when it comes to art searches on ebay. for me it is finding a piece by a listed artist for much less then it would be in a gallery or at a live auction.
narrowing the search to period, medium, and country of origin are good starts...but pushing this further to include terms like "social realism" or "precisionism" or specific artists names or schools such as "art students league" "abstract expressionism" "wpa" are even better. of course if the seller knows what she has, the price is often higher, but i've still found things for 10-20 cents on the dollar.
and remember to ask about condition, provenance, and return policy before bidding.
