Okay, so here's the skinny. A friend of ours told us that she r e a l l y w a n t e d one of these for her and her husband, but they were pricey, so they built one. Then we opened the Times on Sunday and read about a couple that ordered "The Sex Chair". You can read it here, The Plain, Unmarked Box Arrived, buy you might just want to save yourself the time and cut to the chase...

The sex chair is actually two chairs. One, the Tantra Chair is the higher priced alternative ($1000) and comes with a website of great naked videos of a pretty hot couple slowly "doing it" on the chair. The marketing is WAY better here:
This elegant furniture design, inspired by the female form, was created to enhance the sacred sexual positions of the Kama Sutra. The Tantra Chair gently guides and changes your pelvic angles during lovemaking creating amazing new sensations and unparalleled comfort. >> TantraChair.com

The Esse Chair is the lower priced alternative ($500) and comes with a lot less heat. Just the chair and this straight ahead pitch:
By day this chair is a chic chaise lounge, a place to read, relax and unwind. By night, it is the ultimate love making lounger! You will lose yourself in the experimentation and sexploration. >> Athenashn.com
After crawling around the Tantra Chair site for awhile, there is no reason NOT to buy this chair. It just looks like fun, and a hell of a lot more interesting than a new rowing machine. The only problem? Where to hide it when guests come over....
Get Our New Book! It came out last week!

I've seen this email twice already: here and in my inbox. I get the point, already, thanks.

Yuck.

whatever happened to using pillows?
I can't imagine putting something so large that I find so unattractive in my home.
view kittyj's profile
It's fugly. No way would I want that in my house.
And hot couple? Yeesh. I think that chick's breast implants were made out of concrete.

So is the sex swing going to go designer now? I will wait for my e-mail from Room and Board taking advanced orders.

Ditto inkstainedwriter. Responded to your email, responding again here: put this on the list of things I don't ever want to hear from AT about. Ever.

PS: "The likeness and elegance of the female form."
1) Elegance? Pantless chick?!
2) So we're shaped like big pieces of wood with a layer of padding? AWESOME.
view DWF's profile
whatever happened to the idea of living without excess? So much talk about one in, one out, not buying what you don't need. What do we do with this? In comes the tantra chair, out goes the sofa? No thanks.
Ditto what inkstainedwriter and DWF said.

Who knew.... we can now turn to AT for porn links.

Geez, what's everybody so worked up about? I wouldn't buy it because I don't have extra room (or cash) for something so specialized, but I don't get why the commenters above have such strong negative reactions to it.

I'm no prude but come on, this ugly unitasker just isn't in keeping with AT's mission. One reference to it was enough.
view metromom's profile
Ditto, STH.
I don't think it's that much of an abomination (especially in the right setting), and I certainly don't think of it as porn. I bet it's fantastic to read in, great for dozing, and a fun way to change up the sex life. I have an everpresent fear of breaking my beloved vintage sofa after breaking my bed during intercourse so this kind of furniture would be a relief for someone like me!
Then again, I don't receive emails from AT.. so I appreciate the posting. ;)

I'm rolling my eyes on this one. If you need special chairs in order to get in the right positions, you're either a) not doing it right and/or b) have a complete lack of imagination.
view ridge_van_winkle's profile
SoutheastPDX: the chair itself I don't consider porn, BUT the TantraChair.com link provided in the post definitely links to videos of porn.

Ick. As an upstanding member of the gay community I find this extremely distasteful.
I vote that we bring decency back to AT.
No more semi-clad woman on the website. Please.
Does AT have no shame?

What shade of red is that on the wall in the video, anyone know where I can find it, or the chest of drawers in video 2? Haha, lol! Don't be so uptight people. It's still part of design and may look great in a modern space with those curves. Europeans are much more open about sexuality. It might not be for everyone, but keep an open mind.

I have an open mind. However, I also have a discerning eye. That sex chair is fugly.

The Esse is available in a lot of different colours on the site of the actual manufacturer, Liberator: http://www.liberator.com/products_esse.php#
They have a lot of really nice pieces that can enhance your home or your sex life (if necessary), all coming in a variety of sizes, combinations, and colours.
I don't think that the existence of this kind of item implies that people haven't any imaginations. These are good products that can make more difficult and adventurous positions more comfortable and accessible, especially for people of above average size, or below average physical health and/or flexibility.
ridge_van_winkle: there isn't a "right" way to do anything when it comes to sexuality and intimacy. If you approach sex that way, then it is you who aren't doing it "right."
I also agree with SoutheastPDX that this certainly is not, or isn't necessarily intended to be a Unitasker.

And gross just imagine if you went to someones house and it was in their living room.

To tell the truth, my boyfriend and i were looking at this tonight and we both want it. Especially for the oral sex. No strain. I am interested in knowing what kind of sex life you people have to be so negative on this product. Come on, it looks awesome and fun.

I'm a middle aged mom and grandma and I'd have this in my house if I had the disposable $$$ and space. I had a chaise lounge with an S shape in my fist college apt back in the 70's that my prudish mom bought me ( it was black fake fur and made of foam and cardboard) and everyone wanted to sit on it to watch tv.
I could imagine sitting on these to watch movies or knit, if I knew how. Or get a nice anti -migraine massage from my spouse. Haven't had time to view the video because my teenagers are always hogging the computer.

I would totally buy one of these. We have a memory foam bed and anyone who has tried to have sex on one knows, great for sleep, bad for sex. The only thing stopping me is our current lack of space. Maybe we will try to find something similar, and cheaper, when we get the new house.
It is also leaps and bounds more stylish than the liberator wedges that I always see.

I am getting this chair as soon as I have the money.
