The judges have spoken - their pick for the smallest, coolest home in the world...
For second place, the judges shifted to the west coast...to LA... and the winner is...
Dear AT,
Can you please help me finish my apartment?
I moved in over a year ago and have been slowly acquiring furniture etc., but the room just doesn't feel "comfortable".
I know I need a rug, art behind the sofa and possible window treatments, but i just cant seem to find anything that's right!
My colors are very neutral and I know I should add some color, but I'm stuck.
Please help. Thanks! Eric
Moving from Chicago to the east....NYC....the third place finisher for 2008 is...
Last night there was a big round of applause in Room and Board, as the fourth place winner was announced...and she was there to hear it...from Chicago...it's...
Dear AT,
I was wondering if I could canvas the creative minds here at AT.
We recently moved into a older cabin (1927) and while the home has a lot of character, some of it is a bit much for our tastes.
The hallway is a perfect example of our conflict.
The entire hallway is lined with knotty pine paneling, which is definitely not our style...

I found Susan Vecsey by spotting her card next to the cash register at a liquor store last weekend. Amid the clutter of modern life, I found her small, cloudy landscapes comforting, inspiring and beautiful...
Dear AT,
I am looking for a dark charcoal gray/grey (I'll never figure that spelling out...) for my office!
I'm going to do mostly white furniture to pop off of it (see pic), but I'm nervous to get something too black or brown.
Can anyone recommend a great dark charcoal gray?
Thanks! Amanda

Today, before any of our sites post the full winners that were revealed last night at our BIG BASH with Room & Board in Chicago, I am going to send out the complete listings for early birds. Can you resist? Can you guess who those winners are up above????
Stay on the pulse with a double shot: blog + email. If you're not signed up, go for it right now (on the upper left nav).
This highly coveted DWR flight recliner chair in dark brown leather is the quintessential modern recliner- streamlined, not bulky, and comfortable without being too cushy.
As many on this site have been dismayed to find out, original retail on the leather chair is $2700.
It's for sale in Princeton, but at $1600 it may be worth the drive if you've really been craving one!

Dear AT,
We just moved into our house and one of the bathrooms is extremely small.
I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but the sink is probably 10" wide and it is a stand-up shower.
There are these open shelves (that are wonderful) yet I have no idea how to hide all of my toiletry items.
I have considered a curtain or maybe baskets, but I still need to have access to my daily items.
Any suggestions?
Thanks! Karyn
Dear AT,
I inherited an IKEA Malm bed in the birch finish and have been looking for a way to jazz it up.
I saw this terrific credenza by Pieter Maes and was inspired to make my own DIY design with some adhesive vinyl (the kind used for wall stickers).
Any thoughts on where I can buy sheets of the stuff in New York or on the web? Thanks! Joan

Who was your favorite entry and why?
We really liked all the other East entries, but really liked Nicolas' Mini Loft for an owned apartment and AAD's as a rental. Both were very clean and airy without compromising comfort.

You chose 'em, now click on any pic above to see the full post. We want to thank all of our contestants and congratulate the International Finalists above (we have 8, and are posting in 2 groups). Now, we invite you to handicap the winners in the thread below. These finalists will be showing off brand new, enriched entries in two weeks for the judges to pick the winners, but we'd like to invite you to indulge in a little fantasy league of your own. Full disclosure: I think Kate is soooooo much cooler than Andy Spade (and, yes, I'm a guy). Hilary (woman) may lose, but Kate (woman) has won. Her style seems so much more grown up, fun and exciting than his little confused downtown boy club around the corner from her SoHo store. Okay, that's harsh, but it's true (his bags are nice, but that's it). And even though I have NO USE for anything in HER store (bags, glasses, etc), I still go in there and I like it. I know, metrosexual, wierd...
Dear AT,
I am looking for a coffee table for my living room.
Where can I find something similar to the one in this inspirational picture to the left.
I love the look of natural wood products, however, am having a hard time finding stores that sell those items for a cost I can afford.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Yelena

(Our honorable mentions go to submissions that did not make the finals but really rock. They are awarded purely at the judge's discretion. Each honorable mention receives a special gift.)

Our Room & Board Judge, Emily Gurstelle, made a wonderful choice of Northwest #7, Shannon’s Sumptuous Studio for her honorable mention.
Emily says: I love how much personality is packed into that small studio. The strong colors might be too much for some, but I see a very cohesive design between the furniture, accessories and walls. You can tell how much thought was put into each element—from the dining table to the bedroom nook. For me, this space has a great balance of edited possessions and worldly comforts.
Dear AT,
After a few months in our new “grown-up” apartment, we’ve finally decided to retire the futon and buy a sofa we can be proud of!
The mid-century wood frame sofa, like the attached picture, seems to be the right balance to accommodate a tall boyfriend, design-mad girlfriend and a cat that loves to scratch!
But now the question: where to find something like this on a limited budget in NYC?
I feel like I’m competing with an over-inflated market– the one in the picture is being sold for $9,500!...

Reversible, embroidered pillows designed to create some division of labor equity between new parents. We envision a lot of cheating.

Dear AT,
I fell in love with a photo you posted recently, the blue grey bedroom?
My own bedroom is ripe for a paint job, and I just can't find a paint chip to match it, and it's driving me mad!
So I thought I'd send this and the image in question, and hopefully receive a paint chip ID from someone.
I'd really appreciate anything you can throw my way.
Thanks! Ashley

Who was your favorite entry and why?
#23 Life of Pie, because she made tasteful and personal choices without giving into that minimalist mumbo-jumbo.
Her personality really comes through and it looks like a fun and comfortable place to hang out. It's small and cool.
