"New York City has been hit particularly hard...."
NY1 reports today that 500 bedbug cases have been reported this year, up from, well, near-extinction in recent memory. Apparently the bugs hide in your mattress and come out at night to suck your blood. I'm sure we all have bigger things to worry about, but if you feel somewhat lower on blood than usual and have small, reddish welts on your body, then you may want to check out this article in National Geographic or call Andy Linares of Bugs Off Pest Control Center, or the City Health Department. Bedbugs also treated in NYC by Pest Away Exterminators, reported on earlier. MGr

According to National Geographic, bedbug numbers are increasing dramatically in developed contries in recent years.
"They are thought to have first gotten a taste for human blood when cave-dwelling humans lived beneath bug-infested bat roosts..."
Eeeew....
Ooops, the link to that Nat'l Geographic story above is:

And double oops...didn't even notice that that link is the SAME ONE mentioned in the post.
I'll chalk my stupidity up to extreme blood loss.
Check out a freelance article I wrote last fall for THIS OLD HOUSE entitled "Bed Bugs!" Lots of good suggestions from experts on the subject.
