Happijac makes what they call "Power Bed Lifts" for RV's. The lift is made of a metal frame with tracks that quickly snap together.
Next, a powerful heavy duty, direct drive motor drives your bed up and down. It is able to lift 450 lbs and hold up to 600 lbs when static. With the simple flip of a switch you can get your jollies by making the bed (or beds) go up or down and remain at any level you desire. Don't hit the switch when you're sleeping....

I've been looking for something like this for a while after seeing something similar in the book "Living Large in Small Spaces". Too bad Happijac only sells to RV manufacturers. I think they are missing out on a market niche. I know my studio is smaller than a lot of RVs.
O.K. I like that Bed which goes up & down , Where can I purcahse one...
Thank you,
Carmen
Nobody is scared that this thing will crush you. I hope there are sensors or some kind of resistant safe shut off in the bed.
Scott you took the words right out of my mouth!
As a child we had one of these metal pop up beds - I think my mother called it the "high riser" or something like that. It pulled out from underneath and you pulled a metal bar over the bed and it popped up to be the same height as the regular bed.
It was a death trap! I can remember always being so afraid to sleep in it just in case it might malfunction and squish me to death.
Thankfully, she is no longer allowed to use it! When my nephews are visiting, she just pulls out the lower part and they sleep on it that way.
Give me a futon any day.
Yowsah. Why do I keep envisioning Linda Blair in The Exorcist?
And kind of an unfortunate product name, no? (I know... My mind, always in the gutter. Sigh.)
Has anyone contacted Happijac about this?
I stumbled onto Happijac before, searching for a way to make space but not have my bed up to the ceiling. I've contacted them and they don't make a version for apartments. The RV versions you see run on 12-volt systems, you could make this happen with house current and some conversion but it's a bit of a pain. The gentleman I spoke to didn't think the size would work in studio apartment, most of them aren't large enough for a queen size bed. It's still a great idea and he did seem to think the company was heading in that direction. I was even looking at smaller vehicle lifts but they're pricey and potentially too heavy to put into my little apartment
happijac will only sell this product to rv manufactures, they dont sell to the public for liability reasons is what they told me.
For those of us with motorcycle trailers this is the greatest. Except....you can't buy one.
Is there an RV dealer out there that will install one in my bike trailer ????????
Ouch! Mind you, pretty funny watching the animated bed at the top of the post!
I can see the point about safety, but if the switch was located only in a different room and there were failsafes, I basically don't see this is any more dangerous than having a toaster and a bath in the same apartment.

I once went to a party where the host had the dining room table hoisted out of the way on ropes and chains. However, due to other odd design choices, I suspect that he was one of those investment banker masters of the universe types - who were into bondage in the off hours.

It's just silly. Who would want something like that? If your apartment is so small that you need something like this, well,...I would suggest you move "farther out" and get a real apartment with space for a real bed. This is just silly.
Thankfully, Happysmack is smart enough not to sell them to renters. (There would be bed-deaths all over the country!)
