We're always on the lookout for sofa beds and beds with storage. This new option from IKEA has both...

We have the older version of this in our living room/guest room. It's WONDERFUL! And pretty comfortable to sleep on... no pillow top mattress, but definitely softer than the floor!

The storage couldn't be more useful and the couch is really easy to flip out into the bed. We've had it for about 3 years now (in a CREAM color, with 2 black cats and a kid) and it's in great condition.

I just bought this couch two weeks ago, and it's pretty amazing. obviously not the best quality product, but it's sturdy as anything and soooo versatile. it's like the swiss army knife of couches. I just wish it came in different fabric choices like most of the other sofas from IKEA.

To those who have this sofa: Where do you store the mattress? It's difficult to tell from the photos if the mattress is the sofa cushions...

We've got an apartment-sized, non-IKEA, non-sectional version of a pullout-bed-with-storage in black leather and it has been the saving grace of our 350-sq-ft 1-bedroom apt. Our two small closets are at capacity (who told a triathlete and a chef to move into 350 sq ft?), so a comforter for guests plus an additional set of sheets and towels simply wouldn't fit.

Thanks to our pullout-with-storage, we keep guest bedding and towels in the storage space underneath, and we've had friends stay overnight with us on several occasions! Then in the mornings, we have to wake them up to fold the bed out of the kitchen to make coffee! :)

I too have the older IKEA model in a cream/tan color. It's pretty nice, but I have a thick featherbed to lay on top of the very firm mattress to make it something fit to sleep on. I would not recommend this being your actual every-day-of-the-week bed (if you can avoid it), but it's great for visiting guests and the storage space is nice.

My brother lives in a tiny apartment in Hong Kong and has this in his pint-sized living room. I visited him for two weeks and slept like a baby every night! It is a really great bed for guests and unlike a lot of sleeper sofas, you don't risk pulling any muscles when trying to yank the mattress part out. It just pops right up. I wish I had one in my tiny DC apartment!

I agree with aaron. How does that mattress work? It looks like the storage pulls out and a mattress rests on top, but does the mattress fold into the bottom some how? Is the bed really 2 seperate pieces? the sofa piece that pulls out and the lounge piece? Please explain!

the picture is misleading - the mattress isn't really white like that. I think they're just showing it with a white sheet over the top or something. The bottom part under the main part of the couch pulls out with two fabric handles (it's on casters)...it's kind of like a trundle bed. then it's on springs and pops up so it's level with the main part of the couch. it's really really easy.

Thanks for the mattress explanation vevhjrata. I'm assuming that the storage is under the chaise cushion, then. Cool.

Is this the new version of the FÅGELBO? It looks a little more tailored and is really, really tempting.

For the people that own this couch - which store did you get it in?

According to the IKEA site - it is only available in stores, not on-line. When I check the inventory only the MA store has any!

I've sent an email to see when there will be inventory in NY/NJ. It seems like a great solution for my small living room that frequently has guests.

Ugh - frustration! I just got back from Ikea where we fell in love with this but of course! none in stock. I asked and they last had it 2 weeks ago and aren't expecting any deliveries for another 3-4 weeks and was told that the only way I could get it right away was ordering it and of course paying the shipping charges, too. I don't get it - advertise and show it and then not to have it in stock?? What's next, they'll discontinue it bc the stores haven't sold one in over a month? Blehhh

What's MORE frustrating is every customer service rep we talk to about this product gives us a different answer. We were told as of yesterday that it was "in transit" and there was no way of knowing when the north east would receive these again...and it's been removed from their website!

Anyone know of a similar type couch sold somewhere else?

And now, six weeks later, it's not even on the Ikea website. Why is it so hard to buy this couch!

www.aufurniture.com

They have a similar product. I just looked at them at a local furniture store yesterday after seeing them advertised in Dwell for quite some time.

They offer "regular-sized" mattresses on their pull-outs without springs or nasty bars under the mattress. They take up the least amount of room when opened too. They also have the Queen-plus that looks just like this IKEA version.

Very high quality, and seemingly affordable for something above IKEA quality. I'd check them out.

I just got back from IKEA with my Manstad, assembled it in less than two hours. When I called the store they told me they were out of stock, but that the customer service in store could give me more info... so I went anyway for other odds and ends. Found out they had about thirty in stock both colors and orientations. Was told that they do not give the info on phone or online since stack can change so quickly...Found mine in MA good luck it is awesome definately worth the wait for price size and all the extras if offers!

apparently, the manstads were much more popular than they anticipated, so they've taken it off the website and only have them in stores periodically.

Does anyone have a good pillow top or feather mattress to recommend to use on top of this? I gave it a test run when my Dad came to visit and while I like the firmness, I'd like to give my future house guests a choice if they would prefer a softer mattress option. Has anyone had a good experience with one that fits this bed well? Thanks much! xo
