As we were flipping through this week's New York magazine, we came across this article (aptly titled "Heaven, With Hangers") on Fantasy Closets...no, wait. I'm sorry. These are real closets owned by real New Yorkers (albeit a bit more high profile than we are), but nevertheless they put our small, fairly cluttered and woefully overstuffed closets to shame! So, in the spirit of Escapes Month, we thought a little escapism might be in order...

Anna Sui (Fashion Designer, Greenwich Village): She took her closet inspiration from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The back of the armoire was removed to lead into a walk-in.

Yana Kamps (Style Advisor, East Village): This closet was originally a guest bedroom. No, that was not a typo.

Linda Rodin (Stylist and Entrepreneur, Chelsea): Her closet also serves as her home office, with the closet door serving as a beautiful inspiration board.

Maneesh Goyal (President of an Event-Production Company, Union Square): This closet just might take the cake. It has laundry hampers, a three-way mirror, a library ladder, and shoe racks that height adjust to your preference.

When I was in art school in Baltimore, I dated a painter who supported himself between grants by working in a vintage clothing store. He collected over 400 hand painted silk ties from the 30's, 40's and 50's. He lived in a filthy and cold loft, but lovingly displayed the ties by hanging them from suspended rods around the perimeter. It looked great.

For many years, I've contemplated not taking on a roommate (or kicking one out) and converting the second bedroom into a fantasy walk in closet. I have a hoarding/collecting habit (over 100 shoes,70 bags, 20 coats and that's only some of it...) I think I need help.
