Wallpaper Love. The latest issue of
Time Out features a half-page story—
House Call: Hudson Heights—which briefly talks about architecture and design writer
David Sokol's two-bedroom apartment which he and his partner rehabilitated.
Time Out's pictures leave a lot unanswered—a floorplan graphic would have helped immensely—but the homeowners' love of bold wallpaper cannot be denied...
I wonder if the quilt in the master bedroom is just tightly tucked, or if it is actually fitted. In the late '70s, I had a fitted quilt made by Bedsack, which now only makes mattress pads. I've been looking for another one like it for years.
As a New Yorker who can only afford to rent, I am going to SCREAM if I read another story of another person in their 20s who buys an apartment with "leftover Bar Mitzvah money" and "college funds" (what the heck are those, btw -- most of us OWE money as a result of college).
those blues are so difficult, i wonder how they look in person? and did i miss it or are there absolutely no sources on anything? master bedroom wallpaper anyone?
I agree Jal, but at least the apartment was purchased in Hudson Heights and not the middle of trendy Tribeca. Her got a great deal for 1,100 square feet. We just spent more than that on a 950 square foot apartment in Inwood.
That Master bedroom wallpaper looks like it's by Twenty2, which is sold online via Walnutwallpapers.com (a great resource)
Those white Saarinen chairs in the living room look pretty swank... I also like that tinker-toy-esque mobile (why don't I have a mobile?)
These super-busy wallpapers are dramatic but I'm not sure I could look at them every day.
I also like the mobile. I think they're going to make a big comeback. I'm thinking with LED lighting included. Hmm, it's giving me new ideas!
What is that wallpaper in the kitchen? I NEED IT! Anyone know? it's not at walnut wallpapers that i can find.
The kitchen wallpaper might be this..click on my name.
I thought the mobile was a light fixture. Love as a light fixture and want it as a light fixture.
Hi there,
Thanks so much for the feedback - we've added sources to the website, which can be found here: http://www.timeout.com/newyork/Details.do?page=1&xyurl=xyl://TONYWebArticles2/592/real_estate/house_call_hudson_heights.xml
We don't have the capacity to produce floorplans yet, but we're working on it.
