apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Apartment Ratings

Wouldn't it have been nice to know before you signed the lease about the roach infestation or the ex-con Super? Apartment Ratings was launched last year by some old friends in Austin and offers "apartment reviews by real people." (Remember www.greatboyfriends.com anyone?) Their coverage in New York is still slim, but that spells nothing but good karma for those who get in early. Let us know what you think.

I chose to pay a higher rent at this apartment building because of the facilities (gym, pool, spa) and well manicured lawns. I moved here 7 months ago and the pool has only been open for 2 months. The gym has no keys for the weight sets and only 3 of 9 machines are not out of order. The maintenance men can't fix anything, and I was without heat for 5 days. They also turn off the waterheater at night. I have also had a sneaking suspicion that some of my possessions have been disappearing. Sometimes I come home early from work. Twice, I caught two different maintenance men breaking into my apartment in the middle of the afternoon. I have also recently developed asthma and did not know why, then a week ago I found mold growing inside my kitchen wall. If you treasure your health, privacy, possessions, and expect to get what you pay for then DON'T MOVE HERE!!!! Oh yeah, my neighbors are also drug dealers...Yay.

If you are considering an apartment in the Arlington/Kennedale area, it would be wise to stay away from the Parks at Treepoint community. The apartments are nice enough, but many of the tenants are of questionable character. “Gangstas” hang out in the parking lots and congregate at stairs and in front of their apartments. They are found in groups drinking at all times of the day and night, create a lot of noise and commotion, and cause and bring crime to the community. There is very minimal security here, especially for the community to be so large. There are only two security officers, one per shift, and they are expected to oversee 29 acres.

My husband and I have been here only two weeks and our car has already been broken into and ruined. The back passenger window was busted, the hood popped, and the battery cut-out, cables and all. The car was parked directly in front of our building. When we brought the incident to the apartment manager’s attention, all she could say was that it was our fault for not having an alarm system on the car and that it was a large parking lot. She continued to say that she’s been an apartment manager for many years and that “this sort of thing” happens all the time. (This leaves me to believe that she doesn’t run a very tight community and has become apathetic to all security issues). “Crime doesn’t have an area code,” she continued, and she swore that she runs “100-year” background checks on everyone that applies for an apartment. As my husband pressed the issue, she became more irritated with us, rather than at the actual problem—she allows bad people and crime into her apartments.

Sure, the car had seen better days, but we’re not making much money or we wouldn’t be here in these apartments. We can’t afford to repair all the damage. What’s next? Are our gangsta’ neighbors going to break into our apartment or mug us in the parking lot? According to the management of Parks at Treepoint—that’s our problem and they are not willing to remedy the situation anytime soon. So, if you are looking for a quiet, safe community--or if you have children—I would advise against making the Parks at Treepoint your new home.

I was at President's Walk in West Palm Beach FL for over a year and never had any problems until after I moved out.

1. I needed a rental history. They got a new employee who was hardly there and was not only VERY rude, but it took her TWO weeks and several phone calls to corporate for her to send the info.

2. I later found out I was charged for leaving "trash" in the apt. I thoroughly cleaned the apt before I left but the "trash" she was referring to were some practically new things I couln't take, so I left them for whomever to take (including a new lamp and footbath) so there goes my deposit.

Besides that, everything was good. It was very quiet and I never needed anything fixed but pray you never need their service after you leave. The rudeness was totally uncalled for. I was a very good tenant who paid on time and never gave any problems. Whether or not I left "trash" in the apt, she still needed to be professional.

DO NOT MOVE INTO VILLAGE ON THE RIVER IN SAN MARCOS TEXAS!!!!!
this apartment is awful... there are frequent days with no water (soon there is going to 1-3 days without water...they're saying find somewhere esle to go or run and take a shower in another unit and run back to your apartment) and you NEVER GET HOT WATER!!!! PLus, they let pretty much whoever into your apartment. They let subcontractors through Grande into mine for cable, somehow ended up going into my bedroom, in my closet where a lot of my clothes were on the floor and a BRIDESMAID DRESS WAS TORN!!! They offered no apologies and say they can allow anyone in...so much for privacy and a sense of home. WHAT IF THEY HAD BEEN RAPISTS? Plus my dishwasher and oven do not work and I have lived here for 7 months and they have not cleaned my vent in my bathroom (and if there's mold in there (which the vent prevents) I am responsible for it) Yes, they may be remodeling but that is all I got from them was excuses, excuses, excuses. I have lived in many apartments before and Never have I had these problems. To top it off, they make NO WAY TO MAKE IT UP. IF YOU'RE PAYING RENT, YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO WATER! DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!
