Drimmers Major Appliances

1608 Coney Island Avenue
Brooklyn, NY

2005_3_25_drimmers2.gifAngela's Crush. We got a shout-out for Drimmers in the I Cook! Kitchen Contest and followed up.

A family run business for 30 years, Drimmers is a kitchen specialty store with "the broadest selection of built-in and European productsy," stocking major home appliances, from dishwashers to sinks to home entertainment centers. See their kitchen showrooms for easy browsing.

2005_3_25_kitche.jpgAngela says: I researched what I wanted, got a few price estimates from other stores and then called Drimmers. They bettered the price, and then delivered them FOR FREE. It's a great secret source and will help you save at least $100 or so.

NY Mag agrees, but highlights the fancy aspect: " Swells (or their decorators) trek to these family-owned shops for major appliances at reasonable prices."

Now with two locations, one in Brooklyn and one on East 19th Street, Drimmers is a good stop for both Brooklynites and Manhattanites. (Thanks, Angela!) MGR

I received a defective Northland refrigerator by Drimmer's Manhattan branch, Manhattan Center for Kitchen and Bath. Four months of phone calls to Drimmers, MCKB, and Northland have produced exactly zero results. If I had it to do over again, I would certain never have anything to do with Northland, Drimmers or MCKB.

They've got something for every budget and generally have good prices too. One caveat emptor: one of their salesmen tried the old bait & switch technique out on us, and that was pretty disappointing. The upside: we confronted them, and they honored the (very low) price.

I also bought a set of Frigidaire appliances from Tom at EBA and I was very satisfied with the prompt delivery and installation. Heck I even got the check back for the Rebates for $300 !! I highly recommend EBA . I cannot tell you how great they were (Tom too )

Sorry to say that I've just had a very upsetting experience with Drimmers, which I've relied on for two kitchens and have been sending customers to for ten years. They delivered a SECOND damaged refrigerator and told me they will not replace it ... I'm stuck with it, because I "signed for" the first fridge without unwrapping it and inspecting it, and they only offered to replace it with their floor model as a "courtesy." (This, after I waited all day on Friday for the delivery which never came, and then they tried to deliver it on Monday without even confirming with me!) Luckily I had the presence of mind to have the driver take away both fridges last night, so I told the salesman today that I wasn't "stuck with" anything ... so they have to refund my money. This has been an outrageous experience, particularly from a company that I have done lots of business with and whose number I have given to many people ... and I told them so! Don't go to Drimmers ... they no longer provide the service they did 10 years ago!

I bought all my stuff from them! Best move ever. The service was implacable! Best prices and delivered promptly. Most of all, caring! Two weeks after the delivery, I get a phone call that there might be a rebate which I’m still eligible for. At the end it turned out to be nothing. BUT... imagine getting that care from sears, or another massive company. Truly speaking, this was best retail experience yet.

I ordered from Drimmers because it was $200 cheaper than Best Buy and Sears but he charged me more for shipping instead of waiving shipping. After reading these reviews, who knows how this is going to turn out. Because of the shipping charge, I chose to not order another appliance from them. I liked ordering from the big box stores because every one gets treated the same but Drimmers came through with availability and the price savings was a nice extra.

I ordered from them again because they are fast and no hassle delivery.

I have owned this fridge for less than a month and the temp won't go below 40 degrees (unsafe). I have a fridge thermometer which I usually keep in my Kenmore by Whirlpool fridge so I know the thermometer is working fine. Food smells when I place it in this fridge. I bought it from AB Drimmers in Brooklyn and have emailed them as well as Whirlpool. This is my second whirlpool purchase from Drimmers. The very expensive clothes washer is delightful but if my experience is not positive with regard to this fridge, I am retracting the previous positive review and will boycott Drimmers and Whirlpool.

Drimmers is faxing me a receipt in "two minutes" because Whirlpool needs dated proof of purchase to send a repair ticket out and Drimmers did NOT give me a receipt at delivery just a delivery stub. Whirlpool tried to do the same thing that Sears did on my GE fridge for eight years i.e. they said that food is okay between 30 to 46!!! degrees so forty degrees at maximum temperture is just fiiiiiiiiine and I wouuld have to pay for the service call if there was nothing repairable on the fridge because my warranty only covers repairs and if they decide there is nothing to fix then there is nothing to fix so what if my meat is spoiled, my milk is warm! It was EXACTLY the same spiel as Sears. I told "Jennifer" to look on the internet to learn that 40 degrees is not SAFE for meat and that I have fridge thermometer that tells me that the fridge is stalled on 40 and has yet to enter the "safe" zone on my thermometer AND food smells in the fridge. I told "Jennifer" that if maximum temp according to Whirlpool is 40 degrees that I will go on every internet site that allows reviews of Whirlpool and write that Whirlpool stands by 40 degrees as safe for meat. I've read Fast Food Nation and I own a fridge thermometer. I am in no mood to be diddled! It's already been two minutes and I don't have a Drimmers fax yet. I will post again!

posted by Begonia on 2006-11-16 14:26:29

ps "Jennifer" put me on hold for five minutes and then told me that fifteen degrees is maximum cold for Whirlpool fridges. I called Drimmers for the receipt and emailed them the problem but otherwise Drimmers hasn't been involved in this.

I urge everyone to purchase a ten dollar Taylor refrigerator thermometer.

I just got the Drimmers fax.

posted by Begonia on 2006-11-16 14:33:47

Jennifer then left a message on my voicemail saying that the repair was cancelled and I would have to call back. When I did knowing that Whirlpool must have my phone number in the system, I was told that I should place a glass of water on the second shelf to test coldness as the proper method. I told her that I was using a PROFESSIONAL thermomet i.e. SCIENCE not emotion and if I had to go through the same hoops as with Jennifer then direct me to somebody who is authorized to deal with me. They are sending "factory service" out to me tomorrow. There's no way that the methods used are the same as Sears to avoid fixing uncold fridges. It's an industry wide scam.

Well, it is back to sears and no more drimmers for me. I figure that I have a lemon on my hands and if Whirlpool replaces this two week old fridge then that new fridge will also be sucko so I asked Drimmers if they would let me trade it in for a more expensive model and they could return this piece of crap to Whirlpool and be reimbursed. The man on the telephone told me that Drimmers does not have a return policy on refrigerators and they would be incurring a total loss if they did. What bullshit. I've purchased from Jackson Eng Appliances at Confucius Plaza for decades and they are on the phone daily with the manufacturers ordering refrigerators and returning bad stock. I don't believe Drimmers at all. And therefore, I will not be patronizing them again.

Levi Capland is nothing more than a sub division of Drimmers and he works from Jerusalem . Just be careful if dealing with either one. I could tell you horror stories about both of them

I hah a horrible experience with Drimmers. Every appliance came with a problem, dent, didnt work...
My Wolf cooktop didnt work and when I called Wolf to place a service call, they told me that this particular model was already installed and registered with another home. They sold me a used unit that was already defective in someone else's house as new. Save yourself the headache and spend a bit more before going to Drimmers.

I ordered a Sub Zero from Drimmer's located on Coney Island Ave. I price shopped around and received the best price from them, HOWEVER, I plugged in the refrigerator and it was not cooling. I called the store and spoke with Brenda
I was told to wait 24 hours. The next morning I went to open the refrigerator and the door was burning hot, I then called the company and was told I received someone else's refrigerator that had been serviced and then sold to the store at a cheaper price. End result, I had them pick up the refrigerator and called my credit card company to stoppayment. Be VERY CAREFUL when a price seems to good to be true, they sold me someone's else's used product that's why the price was so low!

I would like to share my recent very unfortunate and ongoing experience with Drimmer's, the appliance company on Coney Island Avenue. In June, we bought as part of a kitchen redo: a Gaggenau refrigerator ; its stainless steel doors ; a Bosch stove ; a Perla stove hood ; a GE Monogram microwave; and a Maytag washer dryer unit. The equipment was delivered in Aug. The total bill was over $11,000.

All the equipment except the stove and dryer turned out to be damaged or defective. The stove hood was dented, and the fan made a deafening noise. The refrigerator doors were dented. The trim on the microwave was peeling off. The washing machine wouldn’t run at all. The icemaker on the refrigerator didn’t work and the unit leaked onto the floor. We were told to call the manufacturers. Our contractor did so. He asked Drimmer's to replace the stove hood, but they claimed the dent was his fault first, then gave him such a hard time he bought a new one himself. The only things Drimmer's has replaced were the doors, but left the old ones in the hallway blocking the way. (Too big to dispose of ourselves.)

For the last month service people have come and gone for the refrigerator and washer, each claiming that a part is needed and promising to order it. Last night, my 8-year-old son opened the fridge door, and the 700-pound refrigerator fell on him. Miraculously, he was saved from being crushed only because the corner of the open door stopped the refrigerator from falling all the way.

We've called repeatedly. Our contractor even went so far as to go out to speak with Mr. Drimmer, the owner, and was told that “people buy Mercedes that don’t work. They call the company.”

There are numerous companies involved in this shipment, and it seems an astonishing coincidence that all of them happened to sell us damaged or non-functioning equipment on the same day. We've called Gaggenau, which asks us why the distributor won't replace the fridge. They're sending someone on Sept. 30. Meanwhile, we will have to buy a substitute fridge.
