The Laundry Spa

New York, NY

2005_2_2_bubble.jpgEZ. We hear about The Laundry Spa yesterday, and found ourselves being sucked in by its charms.

Nancy says: They do your laundry and return it shrink wrapped and snuggly fit in a really cute laundry bag that looks like a tote. I just got my clothes back yesterday and I just can't get over how great they look!!

The Laundry Spa is for those busy professionals who want a little pampering in yet another part of their busy lives - who doesn't? Started by two busy lawyers, the service sets itself apart through its snappy but not snobby presentation, empasis on ease and perfectly folded and SCENTED laundry. The price? It's not entirely clear, but the minimum order is $25. If you have to ask..... (Thanks, Nancy!) MGR

One of the two lawyer-founders of Laundry Spa is Fred Mwangaguhunga, brother of Ron Mwangaguhunga and writer of another of my favorite blogs, The Corsair.

I used Laundry Spa a few weeks ago. Took advantage of the first time client discount $15. I liked the service. A very friendly guy picked up my laundry and the same guy dropped it back off. All of my things were in the wrappers, sorted almost logically, all socks together, PJs together, towels, etc.

Given that you can have your dirty laundry picked up late evening and then dropped back off two nights later, well worth the price.

I've used the service and it’s really cool. The packaging is fantastic and the clothes smell really great. It's more expensive than what I’ve paid in the past but definitely it's worth it!

They were also in the Post on Sunday on the Hot List.

I was pretty excited to try it...until my first load did not come back at all. They sent someone else's laundry. To their credit, customer service was very apologetic. So, I thought that I might try it again. Then, two brand new shirts came back with bleach stains. Again customer service was very apologetic. However, since I do not have the time to do my own laundry in the first place, I certainly do not have the time run around and try to replace damaged items.

I tried Laundry Spa two weeks ago and it was I was pleased. Later, however, I saw a similar service called Slate, and I tried it... There is no comparison, it's fashionable, it's super cool, they clean the clothes with an eco friendly detergent, you apparently don't have to sort your clothes, and they charge a flat fee. I was impressed by the service, although I would have liked to see more info on how they clean the clothes. Definitely worth the high price tag! www.slatenyc.com

Hi everyone! I had never heard of Laundry Spa, but I did want to agree with Alyson on this new company called Slate... I work in the fashion industry and therefore own very high end clothing which I love dearly. I read about the company went into the website and was instantly hooked with its concept. I got a hamper and was able to put everything that fit into it for a flat weekly fee roughly $50 (yes yes all dry cleaning haha)I do think that the price is reasonable considering my clothing and the time I save. Anyways, the whole process was great my clothes came back perfectly and beautifully wrapped (even recieved a gift-mmm chocolate)Highly Recomendable!

Check out Flat Rate Cleaners- http://www.flatratecleaners.com . Nothing fancy as far as packaging (same plastic bags and hangers as your dry cleaner around the corner) but any garment is dry cleaned for $3.99. Coats, dresses, sweater, etc. The wash and fold is a flat rate by the bag also.

There is a bunch of stuff they won't clean for $3.99 like beaded items and fur trimmed items but they're great for your basic everyday stuff.

Got rave reviews here... http://rebar.typepad.com/p1uon/2005/05/index.html

please save your time and money and do not use this service!!!!! after they LOST my laundry, it took them months to credit me back, and they gave me a tiny fraction of the total price of my lost clothes. their customer service was horrible and not willing to help me at all. they may seem nice, but if anything goes wrong...they will not care!!! BEWARE!!

I just wanted to warn folks against Laundry Spa. They lost my laundry and were extremely rude when I tried to get some sort of a refund. The week before I found bleach stains on a few of my items and was told that it was my poor care of the clothing that resulted in the stains and that they would not replace the items or cover the damage. However, it was too late for my other load of laundry which had been picked up that morning! It's just not worth it to use this "cool" service if you clothes come back in crap condition or not at all!!

If you like these companies, you should check out the Husky Express ( http://www.huskyexpress.com ). They are NEXT DAY laundry and dry cleaning delivery service. They've created special plans for customers to help save money and their dry cleaning goes for as low as $1.75 a piece. They only service the Boston area right now. Oh and customer service is AWESOME, you always speak to the right person as soon as you call, no getting put on hold and waiting 10 minutes just to be transfered.

The person who started it was only like 21 years old. CRAZY!
