Ameno Housekeeping: Cleaning Service

Phone: 718.492.2307

5-9-ameno.jpgFor Spring Cleaning Month, we're going to be posting all the good and recommended cleaning services that we know of. I don't know how we found Ameno Housekeeping, but we've been using them to clean our offices twice a month for the past year and they're great. They have really nice people, are always on time and do a good job...

Ameno does residential and commercial cleaning as well as a host of other things:

• Daily Housekeeping & Maid Service
• Baby Sitting, Nanny Service & Pet Care
• Move in/out and Post Construction
• Parties, Wedding and Special Events

Prices are reasonable and depend on your space and the size of the job. We were originally quoted $65 for 3 hours, which was their minimum. >> AmenoHousekeeping.com

They have a woman in a "French maid" outfit on their flyer. That's enough reason for me not to hire them.

How much of that $65 does the cleaning person/s earn? Hiring a maid service seems so utterly bourgeois and classist.

Agreed. If you want to hire a cleaning person, why not just hire one and pay them directly?

Oh! I know the answer to this one! Because not only might YOU find it worth it to have someone else interview the person who comes into your holy home space, but also THEY might find it worth it to make sure someone interviews YOU to make sure that YOU are not a deadbeat or some weirdly abusive person.

They probably call to make sure the person found their way there, and didn't get eaten by (your) wild dogs, etc.

Also, some people are TERRIBLE negotiators on their own behalf, and might actually do better this way.

You're not very familiar with working-class and/or immigrant folks, are you? There are vast networks of people who do work such as cleaning and who have quite the résumé of references. Most also ask that the people hiring them present similar references for the reasons you mentioned. It seems to work great.
