Styrofoam! Okay, not a good material to showcase, especially during Green @ Home month. But the planter was recycled: it's owner, m free, bought it on ebay.

plus, this is a great way to reuse styrofoam packaging instead of sending it to the landfill!

what a gorgeous piece! i've always wanted one of those, and one of the old telephone tables in the same style. they're really hard to come by!

i wonder about it's original purpose; i begged my "french grandmother" for a similar bedside table, complete with
fitted lid. it had a china insert, which was cracked(and discarded)...she gave it to me, and then told my mother what it was: a chamber pot disguised as a table. i was eleven, and brought it back to the US. i think my sister has it displayed in her home. even at eleven, i thought it would be the perfect planter!

Top watered plants are not likely to last long in this planter. It would be a major improvment to convert it to sub-irrigation with this simple method using expanded polystyrene board material. I'd be glad to answer questions about it.
