Some of our favorite new designs from our trek through the New York International Gift Fair this weekend came from newcomer Heather Lins. Heather was one of three designers chosen for A+: The Young Designer's Platform and her first three collections combine the simplicity of canvas with bold screen-printed graphics and typography: Eye Chart Pillows, Numbered Edition Placemats, Napkins & Coasters and the Conversation Pieces Pillows...

I love these graphic/typographic motifs, especially the talking bubbles. I don't really understand why the eye chart is in 3D -- that seems like the visual equivalent of a mixed metaphor, or something. The eye chart by itself would be clever. Anyway, I do love these additions to the b/w trend!

I don't think it is 3D, yet it is the way the chart looks when your lenses are not matched to your sight range. Or should I say that in the process of finding your correct lenses this is how the chart looks. Great detail.

But there are 3D glasses next to the pillow; I'm just a bit confused by this particular idea, although I like the collection over all.

To clarify - the pillow on the left is printed with three colors and does appear 3D when wearing the glasses! But the graphic representation of 3D is actually more interesting than actual 3D...
