When blogs only make life harder. This intrepid reader has run up against a dead end. We have no idea about these lamps. Do you? (comment below)

I found the question on this blog - www.mexicanpictures.com - and I also want to know! This is from a blog of a couple moving back to NY.
Thanks, Dana

Anthropologie has had lamps similar to this in the past, though somewhat less ornate.
First, isn't ABC the mecca of Indian lamps? I walked in there and was overwhelmed, so maybe try there. Second, I'm not so sure those are Indian. They look more South American or Mexican. How do you know they are Indian and does that matter (can they be of other origin and still be acceptable)?
The lamps were on the ceiling of an Indian restaurant in Brooklyn. The owner told me he brought them from Bombay so I know they are Indian, but I'm sure I've seen them somewhere locally. Maybe ABC is the right call. I'm going there tomorrow.
Another question there used to be store on Lafayette & Prince that sold moroccan lamps. I remember they moved to 14th street a few years ago, but I can't find the name of the store or the address. Any ideas?
update. ABC had plenty of cool lamps, but most were Moroccan. The Indian lamps tended to be chandeliers... there were none of these decorated glass lamps around.
I bought a bunch of them if anybody is interested ?
They are definately Indian. I have them up and down my halls. You can buy these lamps at ABC Carpet at outlandish prices if they happen to have them in stock. Occasionally they show up on eBay. In Thailand you can buy them at the Chatachuck Weekend Market for about 20-50USD per lamp. In Delhi they are available for anywhere from 5 - 50 USD, depending on how much you are ripped off. Look in Old Delhi (on the lighting street), at the various State Emporiums off Caughnnut (spelling) Place, at numerous antique shops through Rajistan (where they originate), and somtimes in the Tibetan market off Janpath.
