Hello AT,
I have a Danish Modern chair who would like very much to have its cushions reupholstered by knowledgeable hands.
I've already obtained some great dark gray Ultrasuede and would like to find a good and not overly-expensive upholsterer to do the work.
Any recommendations? Ones in Brooklyn or lower Manhattan would be especially convenient.

I used Lore decorators from your list to re-do 2 mid-c chairs -- they come to your home, give an estimate, and if you choose to proceed, come pick up the item a few hours later -- and finished the work a week earlier than scheduled. They were terrific!!!!
For loose, simple cushions like that a good seamstress can do the job---someone who does pillows, curtains, etc. and most likely for less than an upholstery shop.
I had a chair reupholstered at The Furniture Joint a few months ago. They did a really great job though it was a bit pricey even though I provided the fabric as well. I felt safe leaving it in their hands.
(Not design related but I just have to say: the owner is dreamy handsome and seemed equally as nice, professional, and fair as he is attractive).
I have a similar chair that was badly broken in a move, and (based on tips from this site) took it to the Furniture Joint. They did a terrific job. I was very happy with the whole experience, and would use them if I ever wanted to re-upholster.
The upholsterer at Las Venus on Stanton Street did a great job with my danish modern furniture. His name is Carlos.
Katie, I got an estimate at The Furniture Joint, and isn't the owner so cute and nice? I told my single girlfriend to find something to reupholster in case he was available! Hee.
i used ray murray. they did a great job.
I've used that shop that has been in Dumbo longer than "Dumbo" has been in Dumbo. They did an excellent job, but not cheap. I'd call and get a price from them.
I love Roy Rudin: 212-967-2611. He's at 545 8th Ave. in the 30's. He's the go-to guy for the NYC film industry; reasonable prices and very fast in case timing is ever an issue. Nice guy, too.
I have a chair need to be worked(need new spring, too) and thinking about The Furniture Joint for quite sometime. Now I'm so encouraged to pay a visit nway(thx to Katie & Fiona).

I don't have a chair, but am now interested in going to Furniture Joint as well ;)
I'm have the same problem, but my chair is in perfect shape, it's just the cushions have horrid covers. The box pillows I've seen are never the right size, so reupholstery it is. I can't find a slip cover that fits the box shaped cushions, and I can't imagine going to a furniture store for an upholstery job is the most economical solution. Wouldn't they just subcontract it out?
So if there are suggestions for an inexpensive option, I'd love to hear them.
Lore Decorators? Are you kidding? They screwed over my interior designer and I met another one at a party who had the same problem. They might have done right by you, but they seem to have a problem with consistency. I guess if you want to press your luck, they would be the people to go to though.

There's two places in Park Slopethat I wonder about
Three Peddlers at the corner of Seventh Ave and Lincoln,
and another at the corner of Fifth Ave and 2nd or 3rd St
They both *look* good, but I haven't had any upholstery needs to check them out . . .
No hot lads at either, that I know of . . .
Patty, who used to work with Barry at General Nightmare on Columbia St, has a shop on Van Brunt St. in Red Hook and does upholstery. Unfortunately, I can't remember her last name or the name of her shop, but it's about 2 doors down from Hope& Anchor on Van Brunt St. She does good affordable work.
Love the chair by the way. I have a couch that's very similar.

I'm pretty sure that's Patty that used to have the super keen retro furniture shop on Lafayette St below Houston.
She's got mad skills, and plenty of experience on chairs like the chair pictured...
We have the same chair and are not having a problem with the uphostery but are looking to find where we can get a replacement for the springs (plastic covered loop springs) that are underneath the bottom cushion.
I got such a kick out of the girls' comments that I sent this link to Furniture Joint. Matthew (a.k.a. dreamy handsome owner) wrote back and said, "Hi Sara, suddenly I'm feeling kinda good today, thanks matthew." Sorry, I didn't ask if he's available...
