I don't think I'd have it in my house, and I'd certainly never pay that price for it, but it made me laugh out loud. (So I voted hot.)

it's sooo cute! and i bet it's comfy.

i'd only buy it if it were cheaper.

NOT -- and worst of all, can't crawl away fast enough for my taste!!!

reminds me of the image of Edie Sedgwick dancing on her leather rhino.

That thing REALLY FREAKS ME OUT! I vote NOT for the sole reason that I think it might nip at my toes when I'm not looking.

yikes

Oh Dear Lord! This thing is ghastly.

But something says it would be fun to watch guests respond to it at first glance! Especially little kids. I think they'd have nightmares...

hmmmm....this gives me an idea....

It's adorable, but not in my house.

that thing is something the authors of my other favorite blog, Go Fug Yourself (www.gofugyourself.com), would call a 'scrolldown fug'. i.e. you see the title "hot or not", then you scroll a tad and see tufty brown leather (oooh, i like me some tufty brown leather), then ooooooh nooooo! turtle appendages!

i actually could use something similar to this in function right now (ottoman, footstool, what-have-you). but no.

I can't help but feel sad and ask Richard why? I see the designer put in a lot of creative work into this piece but...I just can't keep a straigt face. The price is way too much but I guess If I liked the piece I'd pay for it. And I suppose a lot of detail and hard work went into this. Wonder, is this the beginning of a series of footstools?
Hope not.

If this thing had a chain, to which Carrie Fischer wearing a metal bikini was attached, then - HOT!

Otherwise, not.

opoponax—I am also a huge fan of the fug!

Funny, I have been shopping for ottomans
on overstock.com and just saw a similar
turtle footstool:

I think it's pretty awful - but for those
of you that wanted a cheaper version, this
one isn't half bad.

I actually like the Overstock version better. I think its friendlier looking.

In Turkey this particular piece of furniture is called "The Frenchman."

What's a human ottoman?

This basically means putting your feet up on something that looks like a cute cartoon animal but is made from the skin of a real animal that likely lived a miserable life and died a horrific death. Seems kinda wrong...

The overstock one is "faux" and I couldn't see if the Horchow one is leather or not. Still, speaking of cartoons, it seems like an accident waiting to happen...

this horchow item is venturing into lillian vernon territory.

This is one of most ill-conceived designs I've seen. It's too whimsical for the medium, not whimsical enough for children. Squarely in the middle in the worst way. Sometimes things like this seem to straddle several ideas beautifully, but this one is quite terrible.

It looks like a large, heavy bran muffin fell from a great height onto the Geico gecko.

posted by valerie on 2006-08-25 09:13:13

It's dreadful.

i voted yes, then saw your comments. hahaha! esp. valerie's comment about the bran muffin.

I think it's absolutely beautiful and would to have it in my home! It's elegant and tasteful and would not fear it would eat my toes!

I love it but it is a little too much for me
