Hiding your electronics can be a real headache. So, what about dressing them up, say, in lace? Check out this Lace Screen Cover made by D. Tobias Wong. It's not a mass-manufactured product, but if you really like the idea this could easily be made.
So, what do you think of prettying up your electronics?

A doily for your computer? No thanks.
IMO, Macs are good looking computers. No need to hide them.
So grandmotherly, so NOT mid-century, so insulting to that poor Mac!!!
just plain silly.
I don't really think that this makes any sense.
A TV cover on the other hand (though still not the lace) ...
Why would you cover a new iMac? Lace wouldn't keep dust off the monitor. And the iMac is beautiful, unlike most tvs. However, if you are trying to create an "effect" the lace is kind of dreamy. Boudoir?
They cover the screen but not the huge CPU right next to it?
Have you been to mainland China in the 70's and 80's? They would "dress up" everything with white lace. EEEK. This is what it reminds me of, and not a good way.
Good call a! I didn't notice that the cover was on a display not an iMac.
An oversize doily for a computer? Ew. It's even uglier than that older mac that the person has.
It's Tobias Wong being droll again, and another entertaining moment of design cognitive dissonance.
Eek! I love my Mac too much to disguise it as a pie rug.
I stick a post it note over the camera lens on my mac, I don't need a peeping tom. Other than that, covers/cozies sem silly...
"So grandmotherly, so NOT mid-century?" What does that mean?
Does everyone want to be "mid-century"? What happened to enjoying a variety of aesthetic experiences? I don't want to be a century, myself, just a human.
I love this. It's witty and lovely, and a great strategy to counter the gaping energy hole of the blank screen. (Which is turned off when I'm not using it.)
In my abode (sorry, it's starving artist eclectic--I call it "involuntary simplicity--not mid-century) it would also function to keep the cat fur off my display. I'm going to make my own version.
And as noted, it's an Apple monitor that's covered, not an iMac. Not that that makes much difference. High end covers for Apple Cinema Displays and iMacs sell for ridiculous prices at Acme Made.
Liz I -- chill out. I was just goofing on my own "mid-century madness" (umm -- see my handle, apt, etc etc etc). Nowhere in my post have I told anyone else what period of decor they should choose.
This crowd is so jumpy lately -- I think we are seriously overdue for an AT cocktail hour!
Please. I prefer traditional decor, and my place is full of antique furniture, old books & a bunch of stuff that could be termed "grandmotherly" but even I have limits. An Apple needs a lace shawl about as much as the 19th century copy of the Venus de Milo that sits on my desk.
This kind of thing is one step away from the fuzzy toilet covers they used to sell in the Speigel catalog, and winking & calling it "ironic" doesn't make it any less wrong.
magnaverde.
How about the fact that he cut up an Issey Miyake dress to make it? So many wrongs....
The only reason I would cover my imacG5 is to protect it from dust during periods that it is off for prolong periods (vacations). So I fashioned a dust cover from a zip-off cushion cover I took off a discarded sofa. Mine is white. I only had to cut off the zippered end and it slips over my 20 inch unit perfectly. Only use it when the machine is off and not prone to overheating.
