Bath tubs have morphed into sculpture. The New York Times rounds up some very, very pricey tubs that will elevate your bathroom to art gallery status. If you have the budget — and space — for some of these behemouths, make sure you have a cleaning service (keeping a stainless steel bathtub void of spots and streaks is not our idea of fun)...
Our favorite of the bunch is the Papillon tub designed by Michael Zimber and Michael Cahill for Stone Forest. Shown in Carrara marble (above), the design is available in different materials including granite and travertine.

Though undeniably attractive in the above photo, the Double Wall satin finish stainless steel tub by Neo-Metro might be a nightmare to keep clean. For all the over-the-top tubs (including a tub wrapped in embossed Hermes leather), see Personal Shopper: If You Have to Ask, Try the Shower.
That marble tub is sooooo gorgeous.

the marble tube is great but not my style, that is great considering the how much it cost.

Stainless steel is at least 20 time more expesive than it was 3 months ago. I wonder if they fix the price of this tub or let it fluctuate with the ever risiing stainless steel prices. (steelwork designer)

Both of them would be cool to the hiney.

Any person that would consider 55K on a tub needs to look in the mirror instead

I keep seeing tubs similar to the first picture and the first thing I think of is that it seems treacherous to get in and out of. Anyone tried one of these?
notsocool dad -- heh heh, you said hiney.

The stainless steel one looks like a prop in an old psychiatric asylum horror film.

Hiney is the greatest word ever.
And that steel tub looks like it's just asking for some dents.
