We are not strangers to hardwood flooring applied to the ceiling — we grew up with it. It was a design element our parents used in two of their homes. The presence of wood grain can really warm up a space and lately, we've noticed more of it on the ceiling...

The first example (top two photos) shows a home that has hardwood on almost every ceiling. Maybe a bit overwhelming? The second example shows hardwood used in one large room with very high ceilings. What do you think of hardwood on the ceiling? Via: Contemporist and Desire to Inspire.
Looks interesting if the walls are high enough. I was in a restaurant the other day that had hardwood ceilings that were about 8 foot high. It really made it feel cramped.

Many of the mid century homes I have been in have wood ceilings, it looks nice when the lines are clean and linear.
