Kitchen Inspiration at Brownstoner

08.14.parlor_kitchen.jpg

Kitchen inspiration abounds over at Brownstoner right now. When Brownstoner's friends embarked on their parlor floor kitchen renovation, they turned to the site's readers for inspiration.

So far, eight parlor floor kitchens have been showcased on the site and they're beautiful examples of installing modern kitchen amenities in ornately-detailed rear parlor spaces. We love the cove in the Prospect Heights kitchen above that encloses the refrigerator and range. These large appliances can often be the "pink elephants" of pre-war spaces-turned-kitchens and we think this alcove installation is a great solution.

It looks terrific, although it is really, really tiny. But then again, it looks like they have one (or more) pantry for storage...

However, the location of the GFI outlet on the island is a shame... ideally it should have been placed in a less conspicuous spot.

Thanks for pointing out this series! Some of these are stunning (this one is my favorite). I love that they use one closet as a pantry and the other for storing cookware and had it wired for the microwave and toaster to keep visual clutter to a minimum. An excellent idea.

Really smart design putting the elements into that nook. The island provides a lot of surface area for prep and I would imagine the front of it is full of deep drawers.

Those kitchens have been paining me with their beauty for the past couple of weeks. Especially when I have to go back to my dingy, not-renovated-since-the-40s-but-lacking-all-charm-of-the-era, completely useless kitchen!

Sigh. The design, if not the size, of this kitchen is practically perfect in my book. What a great mix of modern/sleek, and older elegance. My dream kitchen would look something like this...now if only I had a kitchen to remodel!
