When closed, it is an ambient light fixture that glows. A remote control lifts the top half of the sphere to reveal a compact kitchen, which includes a double sink, hot lava stone, infrared burners and countertop work space. The upper half of the sphere becomes a ventilating hood. Beware of the Sheer website: it's very difficult to navigate.
A little...what's the word?...ahh yes, ridiculous!
I'd use it in my kitchen if say, I were living aboard the Starship Enterprise.
"Beam me up Scottie!! And while you're at it can you fix me a delicious ham and cheese omelette with wheat toast in your hilarious Pokemon ball kitchen?"

I think it's kind of beautiful. But seriously, I think that someone needs to test it out and tell us exactly what kind of stuff one could honestly cook in it, etc.

Matthew,
You don't need to cook on the Enterprise, you use the replicator to get your food.

Yes, eSusan, but one might program the Holodeck to simulate a kitchen in order to cook recreationally, and this is probably what it would look like.

I'm showing my Star trek fandom here, cause I really like this kitchen. Of course the 12 grand it probably puts it WAY out of my budget, but it gives me some ideas on creating that super compact kitchen I want.

Notice that you also need the accompanying wall unit to hold appliances not included in the sphere.
It's a stunt... but when you figure $12k is not that much for a high-end kitchen, and you're freed from the tyranny of seeing your sink from your sofa all the time... it's a cool stunt.

I've seen this up close and personal...made me dizzy!
It's a novelty item, I don't see how it is a breakthrough in how to cook better, but in its proper place, in terms of the look in a well designed space, and as a kitchen that would not be used that often, THAT'S where it's cool, I think.
