Blossom Chandelier

10-13-blossom.jpg

What a beautiful light fixture. Available from Plug Lighting, the Blossom Chandelier is made of crystals strung along illuminated branches. LED lights are dispersed among the crystals.

The effect is a dewey, sculputral fixture that would be sure to take center stage in most spaces. I'm sure the price is high but the form and shimmer of this fixture is a source of inspiration. A perusal of the Plug site reveals numerous other beautiful fixtures. -regina

i'm assuming this is a tord boonjte creation, otherwise it's a really close knock off. i think i remember his design costing more than my car.

Boontje is designing the Target holiday collection this year! I imagine there will be plenty of affordable Boontje options...

I wonder if it would be difficult to make a facsimile

I love that chandelier so much. If I were phenomenally wealthy I would have one. The idea of an illuminated cherry blossom branch above the table is just wonderful.

21k?? wow. that cost more than both of our cars put together!
this lamp is amazing though. so is most everything on the websites listed! i want to try to DIY this.

I have the Icarus lamp by Tord and it is..beyond words. It floats and is so striking that everyone comments on it. I redid the entire living room around that lamp.
I wanted that lamp so much that it could be classified as lust.
Tord Boontje is a genius and the news that he doing designs for Target..well..if I start saving now and
camp out in the parking lot the night before his stuff goes on the shelf this could be fun. Any ideas on where to look for previews of the things Tord is doing for Target?

At home, I have a magazine clipping from years ago of a DIY chandelier/light fixure of a similar nature (pun intended). :) I remember it being a bunch of sturdy twigs & branches tied together and each branch wrapped with clear holiday lights. It was lovely...and eventually I'll get to making one. Of course, it's not as elegant as Boontje's.

I have been to Plug and although it is a very pretty store with knowledgeable staff, you will pay beyond top dollar. That being said, I'm not surprised this is so costly because LEDs are still very expensive to use in this kind of quantity. (Although I've seen some awesome lucite furniture with the LEDs embedded in them!)

As a DIY, I would just wire crystals to the branches and use it as an ornamental accent rather than lighting, it will get a lot closer to the look of this piece.

Similar but different idea for a lighted cherry branch.(Click on my name)

Don't forget to just wrap branches in multi colored fairy (holiday) lights for much less $.

if he really is doing something for target, i cant wait. i really tried to justify buying on of his lamps or his glassware...i love his stuff so much, but my conscious and empty wallet brought me back to my senses. though his garland lamps aren't terribly expensive.

i'm definately going to try the white lights wrapped around a branch! right after i finish assembling my cardboard table, making that bed table i need, and painting various pieces of furniture...erg.

If anyone has seen this thing (or LED lights like this) in person the idea of holiday lights around branches just won't fly. The way the LEDs work in pieces of this nature is magical. It's like comparing the clay ashtray I made in summer camp as a tyke to the Pieta sculpture in the Vatican.

Max, eeek said crystals, not holiday lights.

I love it, but 63x57 inches, it's huge, too big for my space. I'd like a smaller branch which, hopefully, would make it more affordable; however, since it is by said designer, even a smaller version is most likely out of my reach.

I just saw a lighted crystal garland at Smith and Hawken that might work. It is clear wire with crystal beads and christmas lights together on the strand. I'll bet you could get fairly close with the look provided you copy the shape.

I fell in serious lust with this too when it first came out, and then fainted at the price. He creates magic, and this is probably his most magical piece. I'm still trying to get the Until Dawn curtain and Puddles series for my daughter's room. And those are actually affordable pieces... (maybe next month, or Christmas?, after we buy taps for the bathroom reno...).

Actually, I just saw some of his stuff at Target this week. I couldn't find it online, and I couldn't even find any news about the collection on the web anywhere. The pieces I saw were very nice...plates, bowls, saucers and cups, serving platters. Bright colors (a lot of red) with his signature floral/animal scroll patern.

I'm not sure if more pieces are coming -- I wish he would do a Target version of this chandelier!!
