We were checking out a band in the East Village last week when our eye was caught by this pendant lamp in a small restaurant on Allen Street. Shiny, bulbous and somehow conveying an older aesthetic, we'd never seen it before. We took a quick photo and then found it online: Splgen Bru.

Designed by Achille Castiglione for FLOS, the Splgen Bru is primarily a polished zapon-varnished spun aluminum reflector with a light hid within. It is not totally hidden, however, and provides directly light below. Not great over a dining table (unless very low), we like these in a hall or over a bar (where we saw them). We found them for @ $400 at YLighting, Farrey's.

Those lamps are fantastic! Is that Pala I spy? I guess I was too busy scarfing down their pumpkin/pancetta pizza last time to notice their keen eye for decor ;).
A 14" diameter $400 chrome beehive! Cool-e-wow.
A smoother, smaller, kinda similar, and more within my budget ($29) pendant is available at CB2. Click my name for linky.
Best product name ever. Makes me want to start a band called that but I can't find the umlaut key on my keyboard. Le sigh.
This is edena from Pala..a friend alerted me to this post.
It is soo awesome that someone noticed these since we had them flown in from italy ( they don't make them with the counter weight in USA) before we even found the store! My favs are the matching Padina wall sconces we found in a lil old ladies basement in Brindisi, Italy. They are all originals from the 60"s & were still in the original Flos packaging. Our electrician had a fun time trying to get them to work! If you are ever in Pala again.. check them out they are pretty cool...THANKS for noticing!!!
