Sussex on the Sly? We looked for a lookalike two years ago. Now, check out these modular Shutter Storage Cabinet units from online and catalog retailer, Grandin Road. Currently on sale, the three stackable shutter units are similar to the style of Terence Woodgate's Sussex series of cabinets. While we know the Sussex to be well-made, we can't be sure of the Shutter Storage cabinet...
It is made of solid pine (as opposed to particle board and laminate veneers). Sometimes though, an affordable alternative is just what one needs. At $457, the Grandin Road unit is remarkably more accessible compared to the Sussex's price tag of $3000. Also, a single sliding-door unit would make an excellent media center cabinet/television stand, for only $139. It appears that these units are only available in black for the sale price. Does anyone have experience with Grandin Road products since Maxwell first looked through a catalog?

Look no further than the price. When it comes to furniture there truly is no deal unless its Old Stock or clearance.

The pricing in this is incredible, sale or not. I love the louvred style and I love the fact that they are modular. You could stack two of them and "hack" it with some hairpin metal legs and end up with an awesome sideboard or dresser. I am now seriously considering the possibilities...

sorry, this looks like a cheap imitation. when you put the two side by side, it only makes the grandin road piece look like a very poor copy.
simon pengelly at modus makes a similar version, "stripey". i'm betting it's not inexpensive, but at least it's another option. here's the link:

Jcpenny also has some knock-offs for sale-
though less streamlined and with no metal.
I am sure someone out there will have something to say about this.

Aaron, any chance AT will have a casegoods month?

I have some outdoor all weather wicker furniture from Grandin Road, some from Frontgate and some from a third, unrelated company. All are of equivalent quality and while I can't speak for the interior furniture, I'm happy with the purchase from Grandin Road.
Note that Grandin Road is just one brand owned by the same company that owns Frontgate, Ballard Design and others.

I don't even see the comparison - junk!

Lourdes:
Chances are slim for an entire month devoted to casegoods, we cover them so much throughout the entire year!

Oh vel. Thanks anyway!

That four-door Sussex cabinte is one of my favorite pieces of furniture of all time, so you can guess where my opinion lies.
I *will* say I was really excited about-- then disappointed by-- the Sussex in white. Looks a little like someone spraypainted the piece in their garage. Bummer.
