I disagree joebelt, not all of them are poorly made. The more expensive ones tend to hold up really well. My parents have had one for over 12(?) years that is still in great shape.

that's not what most people tend to say about them. I'd be very weary to purchase one of the more expensive ones knowing the problems that seem to plague their products. It's one thing to buy a cheap IKEA rug that you only intend to maybe keep 2-3 years but sinking more money into IKEA products is a dangerous proposition.

Ii think people need to walk away from their IKEA stereotypes every once in a while.

And, sorry, but $249 is soooo not a lot of money to spend on a rug. If you think so, where in god's name are you actually getting better quality for same or lesser value?!

I just got rid of an IKEA rug that I was saddled with for 3 years by my husband. It was a beautiful design, and suited our home well, but it never stopped shedding, and we have dark wood floors. I had to vacuum every single day because of that rug, and so I am extremely leary of similar wool rugs -- such as these. Just make sure that the rugs are KNOTTED and NOT glued is my advice. We have a traditional-style rug from IKEA in our entrance, and it is not shedding because it is knotted.

I've had several IKEA rugs, and some are better than others. Obviously, the more expensive wool rugs tend to wear the best, but the inexpensive woven cotton runners are also really wonderful and wear well for many years (my mother has several that have held up beautifully for well over a decade now). The ones to avoid seem to be the cheaper wool and synthetic ones -- but I'm seeing fewer and fewer of those in the store lately.

(p.s. IKEA-bashing is sooo passe! Unless you're complaining about the loading area in Elizabeth, which is just horrendous.)

I bought an "expensive" IKEA rug about 6 months ago and it never stopped shedding. It was awful. Thankfully, they have a good return policy and took it back.

We have 2 large, colorful, Ikea wool rugs that are in great shape after 6 years and 2 kids. I am sure it helps that we are a "shoe free" house.
